It is said that Georgia has raised
nearly two million more bushels of corn
this year than last.
Secretary Hoke Smith, in his esti

country ten million dollars for this fis

earning his salary.

most important matter that will come

Governor Atkinson sent his first of
fioial message to the legislature this
week, and it has received nothing but
the warmest endorsement from all
sources, as progressive, clear and
weighty. Even the Constitution and
Journal uuite in enthusiastic commen
dation. We knew all the time Mr.
Atkinson would make a flue governor.
The House last Friday passed a
school bill which provides that the pub

they were this year. It is thought the
hill will go through the Senate without
tr üble. This will enable the county
boards to have schools in the spring if
they prefer.
Mr. T. W. Price of Locust Grove
presented The Weekly si* or eight
horse apples, of the second growth

If they will make a living at home,
then they will get independent, so far

Again Death has invaded our church
and taken from our midst our dear sis
ter and friend, Mi-s Maud Bury,
therefore be it resolved,
Ist. That it has been truly said,'
“Death loves a shining mark,” for he 1
has borne away one of our sweetest,
fairest flowers. Yet, “lie doeth all
things well” and in our grief we must]
remember that our loss is her eternal
gain, for we feel confident that she has .
enter,d into the rest which God has
prepared for his saints.
2d, That our sister was devoted, to ]
the church, and we feel that in her
death we have lost one of our most
faithful advocates.
31. That we tender our sympathy to
her 1) -reaveil relatives, and would bid
them r member that our Heavenly
Father is to > wise to err, too good to
be unkind For uow she can sweetly
say,
“I have found the joys of Heaven,
1 am one of the angel band,
To my head a crown of gold is given,
And a harp is in my hand.
I have learned the songs they sing,
Whom Jesus hath set free.
And the glori us walls of Heaven still
ring
With my new born melody.
Do 1 forget ? Ah uo !
Foi memories golden chain
Shall biud my heart to the hearts be
low
Till 1 hey m et and touch again.
Each link is strong and bright,
And love’s electric (lame
Flows freely down like a river of light
To the world from which I came.”
