The patronage we have re
ceived, and the numbe oi sales
of Pattern Hats from this de
partment prove beyond con
tradiction that we have the
most stylish, prettiest and pop
ular goods in Jackson. We
dislike to make mention of
the many compliments passed
upon this department by the
ladies who visited our store
on our opening day, but self
praise seems to be the order
oay, and we say right here
that quite a number of people
who attended the openings of
our competitors tell us frank
ly that no such style and ele
gance, coupled with the pop
ular low prices marked on
our goods, met their vision
anywhere.
Farmers and Cheap Money.
The following is from the President
of the United States, and each sentence
is worthy the careful, sober cortsidera
tion of every citizen —high and low,
rich and poor:
“In these days, the farmer is temp
ted by the assurance that though our
currency may be debased, redundant
and uncertain, such a situation would
improve the price of his products. Let
us remind him that he must buy as
well as sell; that his dreams of plenty
are shaded by the certainty that if the
price of the things he has to sell is
nominally enhanced, the cost of things
he must buy will uot remain stationary ;
that the best prices which cheap money
proclaims are unsubstantial and elusive,
and even if they were real and palpa
ble he must necessarily be left far be
hind in the race for their enjoyment.
It ought not to be difficult to convince
the wage earner that if there were ben.
efits arising from a degenerated curren
cy they would reach him least of all
and last of all. in an unhealthy stim
ulation of prices an increased cost of all
the needs of his home must belong to
his portion, while he is at the same time
vexed with vanishing visions of in
creased wages and an easier lot. Tne
pages of history and experience are full
of this lesson.
“An insidious attempt is made to
create a prejudice against the advocates
of a safe and sound currency by the in
sinuation, more or less directly made,
that they belong to financial and busi
ness classes aud are therefore not ouly
out of sympathy with the common peo
pie of the land, but for selfish aud
j wicked purposes are willing to sacrifice
the interests of those outside 1 be
lieve that capital aud wealth, tbrough
combination and other means, some
times gain an undue advantage ; and it
must be conceded that the maintenance
of a sound currency may, in a sense, be
invested with a greater or less impor
tauce to individuals according to their
conditions aud circumstances. It is,
however, ouly a difference in degree,
siuce it is utterly impossible that any
one in our broad land, rich or poor,
whatever may be his occupation, and
whether dwelling iu a remote corner
of our domain cau be really benefited
by a financial scheme, not alike bene
ficial to all our people, or that anyone
should be excluded from a common

SHOES! SHOES!
THE - GREAT - CLOSING - OUT - SALE
Of All Our EAST NEW YORK SHOES
That we have so long sold over our counter*. Mr. Scott Tenant, the man in charge of our Shoe Department, has for
eighteen year* sold these Shoe* to the perfect satisfaction of the people, but now we have to give them up, as the Fast
New York Shoe Co. i* going to go out of business and discontinue the manufacture of shoes. The following letter from
them to us will explain itself. Here is a copy of their letter :
OFFICE AND FACTORY OF

To THE CARMICHAEL CO., Jackson, Ga.—-Gentlemen: It becomes our unpleasant,

ded to liquidate and wind up the business ot this company. Having disposed o' all our line

express to you our sincere thanks and esteem for ithe business you have favored us with

ALL IN BUSINESS.
“In our relatiou to this question we
are all in business, for we all buy and
sell; so we all have to do with financial
operations, for we all earn money and
spend it. We cannot escape our inter
dependence. Merchants aud dealers
are in every neighborhood, aud each
has its shops and manufactories.
Wherever the wants of man exist, bus
iness and finance in some degree are
found, relating in one direction to
those whose wants they supply, aud in
another to the extensive business aud
finance to which the) are tributary. A
fluctuation in prices at the seaboard
is known the same day or hour in the
remotest hamlet. The discredit or de
preciation in financial centers of any
fotm of money in the bauds of the peo
pie is a signal of immediate loss else
where. If reckless discontent and
wild experiment should sweep curren
cy from its safe support, the most de
fenseless of all who suffer iu that time
of distress and national discredit will
be the people, as they reckon the loss
in their scanty support, aud the laborer
and workingman, as he sees the money
he has received for bis toil shrink and
shrivel iu bis haud when he tenders it
for necessities to supply his humble
home. Disguise it as we may, the line
of battle is drawn between the forces
of safe currency aud those of silver
monometallism. Ido not believe that
our people are afforded an intelligent
opportunity for sober second thought,
they will sanction schemes that, bow
however cloaked, meaus disaster aud
confusion, nor that they will consent
by undermining the foundation of a safe
currency. to endanger the beneficient
character and purpose of the govern
ment. Yours very truly,
“Grover Cleveland.”

his cure was so startling and miraculous
that it was soon the talk of the the moun

A reporter of the Gazette concluded to in

“ Twenty years ago, while living in Mor

had a terrible nervous shock that complete
ly prostrated me, and from that time until
a few months ago I suffered untold agony,
and in fact never knew a well day. I tried
everything in the way of medicine that I
knew and consulted other physicians for
miles around, hut I found no relief, and I
