Scott’s Emulsion
is not a secret remedy. It is simply the purest Norway
Cod-liver Oil, the finest Hypophospliites, and chemi
cally pure Glycerine, all combined into a perfect Emul
sion so that it will never change or lose its integrity.
This is the secret of Scott’s Emulsion’s great success.
It is a most happy combination of llesh-giving, strength
ening and healing agents, their perfect union giving
them remarkable value in all
i WASTING DISEASES.
I
Hence its great value in Consumption, wherein it arrests
the wasting by supplying the most concentrated nour
ishment, and in Anaemia and Scrofula it enriches and
vitalizes the blood. In fact, in every phase of wasting
it is most effective. Your doctor will confirm all we
say about it. Don’t be persuaded to accept a substitute /

A Wonderful Piece of Word Painting

Tile following wonderful piece of
word panning li is lieen fr*-q'ieully pub
linli.il, says Tbe 1 'hicago Tribune, bin
we reprint it ut tbe request of several
readerH who desire a complete copy.
Colonel Robert G. Ingersol, in address
ing a jury in a cake which involved the
manufacture of alcohol, m ide tin- fol
lowing terrible arraignment of tbe
demon :
‘•1 am aware that there is a pnjudice
against any man who manufactures al
cohol. 1 believe tiiat from the lime it
issues from the coiled and poisonous
worm in the distillery until it implies
into the jaws ol death, dishonor and
crime, it demoralizes everybody tha'
touches it, from its source to wh>-re it
ends. Ido not believe anybody cat,
c mtemplate tbe object w ithout being
prejudiced against the liquor crime.
All we have to do, gentlemen, is to
think of the wrecks on either bank o(
the stream of death, of the suicides, ol
the insanity, of the ignorance, of the
destitution, of the little children tugging
at the faded and withered breast of
weeping and despairing mothers, ol
wives asking for bread, of the m'li ol
genius it has wrecked, the men strug
gliug with imaginary serpents, produced
by this devilish thing ; and when you
think of the jails, of the almshouses, ol
the asylums, of the prisons, of the scaf.
folds upon either bunk, I do not won
der that every thoughtful man is preju
diced against this damned stuff called
alcohol. Intemperance cuts down youth
in its vigor, manhood iu its strength,
old age in its weakness. It breaks the
lather's heart, bereaves the doting
mother, extinguishes natural affectiou,
erases conjugal love, blots out filial at
'.achment, blights parental hopes, brings
lown mourning age in sorrow to the
grave. It produces weakness, not
ilitiiglh ; sickin ss, not health; death,
not life. It makes wives widows ;
children orphans ; fathers finds ; and
all of them paupers and beggars. It
feeds rheumatism, invites cholera, im
ports pestilence and embraces consump
tion. It covers the land with idleness
misery, crime. It fills your jails, sup
plies your almshouses, and demands
.our asylums. It engenders contro
versies, fosters quarrels and cherishes
riots. It crowds your penitentiaries
ami furnishes victims for your scaffolds.
It is the life blood of the gambler, the
element of the burglar, the prop of tin
highway man ami support of the mid
nig In incendiary. It countenances the
liar, respects the thief, esteems the bias
phonier. It violates obligation, rrver
euces tiaud and honors infamy. It de
fames beuevolence, hates love, scorns
virtue ami slanders innocence. It in
cites the lather to butcher his helpless
offspring, helps the husband to mussa
ere his wife ami the child to grind the
|turicidal ax. It burns up men, con
sumes worn n, detests life, curses God,
despises heaven. It tubor/is witnesses,
nurses perjure, defiles tbe jury box and
stains judicial ermine. It degiades tl e
citizen, debases the legislator, dishonors
the statesman and disarms the patriot.
It brings shame, not honor; misery,
not safely; despair, not hope ; misery,
not happiness, and with the malevolence
of a fiend it calmly surveys its fright
ful desolation ami unsatiated havoc. It
poisons felicity, kills peace, ruins mot
als, blights confidence, slays reputations,
and wipes out national honor, then
curses the world and laughs at ps ruin.
It does all that and more. It murders
the soul. It is the sum of all villaiuies,
the father of all crimes, the mother of
all abominations, tbe devil’s best fiiend
and God’s worst enemy.”

We heard a Monroe county farmer,
who is doing well and who has made a
rule to raise his provisions on his farm,
say last week that he would not change
his method of farming if cotton’ was
selling at fifty cents a pound. That
farmer has a proper conception of what
agricultural method is b-»t f r the peo

farmer iu this county entertained th s
