CONSUMPTION
can, without doubt, be cured in its early stages. It is a
battle from the start, but with the right kind of weapons
properly used it can be overcome and the insidious foe
vanquished. Hope, courage, proper exercise, will
power, and the regular and continuous use of the best
nourishing food-medicine in existence —
Scott’s Emulsion
—the wasting can be arrested, the lungs healed, the
cough cured, bodily energies renewed and the physical
powers made to assert themselves and kill the germs
that are beginning to find lodgment in the lungs.
This renowned preparation, that has no doubt cured
hundreds of thousands of incipient cases of Comsump
tion, is simply God-liver Oil emulsified and made
palatable ana easy of assimilation, combined with the
Hypopnosphites, the great bone, brain and nerve tonic.

Miss E on McDuna d, ilie c arming
and accomplished school teacher of
Timberridge, has closed her sc)io< 1
and is at home agaiu. She is very
popular among s me of her larger pu
pils, who come down to see her quite
often ,
Mr. Pen Harper, one of the choice
young men of Timberridge, was in town
this week looking alter his own pecu
liar interes s. He worshipped at the
Presbyterian church iti the evening.
Mr. John A. McDonald, of Friskey,
is a frequent visitor to the Shoals, and
the mere mention of a certain one’s ar
rival at no distant day causes a signifi
cant smile to puss over his otherwise
placid features.
Mrs. Dora Fiucber lias established
a new millinery store on Broad street
where she can always be found to re
ceive her customers. Snapping Shoals
has been in need of an establishment
of this kind for some time, and a tailor
shop would not be out of place.
The projecting of a dummy line from
Conyers to Snapping Shoals is now en
gaging the attention of our citizens.
'I Ids would indeed prove a great con
venieiico and be the means of immense
go d to our people in opening up the
country and giving railroad facilities,
hut convenient as it may be, it. is not
the best thing wo should have. This
dummy line we believe would pay and
our people would be glad to see it un
der headway, but at the same time, it
does seem to us that a uarrow gauge of
the Georgia Midland from McDonough
to Covington is tlio very tiling our
country needs. 'Phis line would pass
through a fertile region of territory,
through tbo little town of Snapping
Shoals, on by Purterdale mills, direct
to I ’ovington. It would place in the
hands of the Mid’am) a large amount
of freight and a large amount of pas
sengers. It would certainly bring out
the development of our latent resources,
and pay a handsome dividend to the
stock holders of the road.
It would certainly be a dirict route
and defy competition. No doubt the
magnificent water power of the South
river at this point will soon attract the
attention of northern or southern capi
talists, and magnificent mills will be
erected hero We believe the time is
ripe for the (Jeoigia Midland, aud that
our people would subscribe liberally to
the enterprise. We hope, for the
good of our town ami the good of the
country, the company may see fit to
extend their road.
We are fot any aud for every enter
prise which has for its end the good of
our country. S. F. L.

The following article from the Cbi-;
<;ago hit. r Ocean, one of the largeit
papers in the West, will be read wilh
interest by many of our people :
•Wl.il « too many uewspapers pub
lished in the m mlln-rn states are wi iting
in depreciation of the Monroe doctrine,
i 'he people of Veto zuela are extolling
the distinguished southerner who made
a brilliant defense of it in congren.
No man has more truly represented tie
southern sentiment in congress than
Vlr. Livingston of Georgia.
It is from a president of southern
origin that the Monroe doctrine takes
its name. No men have been more in
sistent upon its application to the af
| fairs of every iudep.-ndent power od
i this c niiiiGi.t than the leaders of
southern opinion. The last notable
speech in tde in support of its applica
tion to the crisis in Venezuela was by
Mr. Livingston, of Georgia.
Now tfiat Ins speech has reached the
little republic on the isthmus, Mr. Liv
ingston is the heto of the day. His
words are translated into Spanish and
are circulated broadcast, a poet has
penned a sonnet in his praise, a statue
is projected in his honor. All this is
an indication of desire to make the
great doctrine of America for Ameri
cans a part of the continental creed.
It is a broad philosophy to which
every free country of the continent
may give assent.”
