If Cleveland caused the low prices
of cotton last year, how much credit is
he entitled to for the high prices this
year ?—eh, Constitution ?
One farmer who sold five hales of
cotton last year came out behind 825.
This year three bales paid his debts
and left him sixty dollars in cash
Conyers Weekly.
The Alpharetta Free Press says
that the people of the north and east
are assailing Cleveland because he has
advanced the price of cotton. They
say he is a tool in the bauds of the
southern fanners for whoso benefit be
is robbing people who have to buy cot
ton goods.
In honest truth we believe the coun
try is getting over the panic created by
the effortsof the politicians, and the
honest voters of the country will be
influenced by the good times ahead ol
us to cut loose from the influences
which have done so much to injure
Georgia. We have now the best gov
eminent in the world, and while it is
not without reproach, it is far better
than others and we feel proud of it
Let all quit complaiuing, tak ' care ol
the good things the good Lord has
given us, eschew politics, as far as pos
sible, and we will be happy.—Ex.
blink Goes Back.
Yesterday's Constitution states that
Black has carried the election in the
Tenth by 1741 majority, the election
passing eff quietly all over the district.
Of course the registration law cut
down the vote considerably. The fol
lowiug are the majorities, by counties :
lilack—Richmond 4,(193, Hancock
587—total 5,280.
Watson—Columbia 000, Glasscock,
815, Jeffetson 93, Lincoln 697, Mc-
Duffie (home county) G4G, Taliaferro
347, Warren 512, Washington 200,
Wilkinsbn 102.
lllack's net majority 1,741.
It is stated that these figures may be
slightly changed, though but very little.
IIF.EIMIIEBA.
I have not heard from the Potomac
lately, but all is very quiet along Mc-
Mullens creek
The shortness of the cotton crop,
the rapidity of its opening, and the
progress in getting it out is the priori
pal topics of the day.
The backbone of summer is broken
at las’, aud the returns of cooler weath
er is welcome by us all.
Mr. Will Wynn was rather on the
sicklist Suuday, but was able to be on
foot.
Neighbor W. P. Ilooten had the
misfortune to loose a fine milk cow last
week.
I am too closely tied to the Held to
get any news items now.
Everybody around here knows that
there are boys and girls enough lieie to
have a large Suuday School at Mt Heth
el, if they would only take an interest
in it, but no oue seems to know why
they don’t take an interest in the work.
Miss Annie Manley, oue of'prettiest
and sprightliest little girls of this com
tuunity, as well as one of the most reg
ular attendeuts on Sunday School and
church services at M r I let be!, is soliei
ting subscriptions to a fund to put a
nice plush covering on the book hoard
ju the church, whereby the church and
community may remember her when
she is gone to her new home in Zebu
lod.
The gins iu this section were taxed
to their utmost capacity, last week to
get the cotton ready for market, some
of them running day and night, though
uot one of them has yet turned out a
bale in its night clothes (cotton bag
giug) and 1 hear no talk of a boycott
against them on that account. This 1
take as a hopeful indication of return
ing conservatism and reason among
the people composing the late cotton
bagging party, for since we can all
agree again on the old reliable jute
bagging, and all make out without
goverment warehouses, may we uot be
encouraged to hope that the time is
not for off when we may all again
agree on clean Democrat ic tickets to
vote for souud democratic government
with sound money ?
1 care but little about what auyb <iy
says about me, for I know I will live
till I die, much less do I cure w hat
they say against the Democratic party,
for its past history and preseut vitality j
shows that it is here to remain while a
spark of patriotism and love of liberty
remains iu the human breast. 15ut to
Bee anyone at this- late day allude to
that bubble of wild fanaticism that
bursted among us a few years ago and
scattered the seeds of discord among
fit, so that they sprung up and brought
torth their fruir, in the disruption oi
amilies, alienation of fiiends, division
ot neighborhoods, schools and churches,
coat the country millions of dollars,
and done nobody any good except a
few designing political dead heads who
never themselves done anybody else
any good, and against which over fifty
millions of the American people lie
sides Rural “raised their fruitless (?y
cry'' as “a reform'' simply makes me
“groan in the spirit” and ha “troub
led.”
All articles written hy Rural in the
columns of The Weekly for the past
two year* are on file at this station
subject to the inspection aud c iticism
of any fair minded sober man of any
sort of political faith.
