The railroads threaten to discontinue
the sale of cheap rate tickets to the ex
position if matters continue as at pres
ent. They declare that they cannot
continue to sell tickets at such ex
tremely low rates while the scalpels
are allowed to so seriously interfere
with the business of the rottds. The
sale of ordinary tickets out of Atlauta
has almost entirely ceased, the people
patronizing the scalpers almost exclu
sively. Unless the city council regu
lates the matter the exposition rates
will be immediately withdrawn. And
the railroads are right.

The result of the election in the
tenth, last week shows that Democrats
can beat Populists as wtdl under the
new election law us under the old, and
that a majority of democrats are in fa

that Statesman Black lias more friends
and supporters among the voters of the

and if it should convince Mr. Watson
that there is more money to him in the

Aunt Lydia Moore, who was one of
the beloved good old Mothers in Is j
real, was called across the “Dark Sea” 1
to her happy home in the land beyond
on the night of the bill of Oat, 1895. J
It is not material in writing this brief j
Sketch of this beloved old Mother in
Israel, to enter out upou the broad
Holds that widen and grow brighter as
wo run down the history of her long
and usefully spent life. Many were
the seeds of love and kindness that she
scattered all aloug tho pathway of her
eventful life. Sore and deep afllictious
often hung their dark curtains over
her pathway ; still her hope and trust
was all stayed in tho arm omnipotent.
Early iu her life she united with Prim
itive Baptist church aud was baptized
by old Uncle Billie Moseley, all of
seventy years agone. Her many deeds
of love and acts of kindness clustered
in brighter Hues around tho home cir
cle than they did out in tho turbulent
waves that ride over the rugged hill
tops of this wide world of restless com
motion, but the warfare is all over,
and our beloved ol friend and relative
is now peacefully resting in her grave,
sweetly sleeping side by side with those
who went u.i Dsloro. O-ily oao is now
left, but after a few more fleeting days,
you too, lone sister, will be borue to
the same borne of silence.
lu tho death of Aunt Lydia there is
uo occasion to mourn as those who are
left without hope. We are well as
sured that she wont sweeping through
the gates and her freed spirit is now at
home. Let mo say to you, bereft oues,
no more will the midnight lamp burn
through the lone sad hours while you
sit by tho bed side of your dear old
Aunt. Her sufferings aro now ulI

you. Follow her example, live as she

Church members are very particular
with their church buildings, but it is
no harm to give lectures in them to
keep people in a laugh, with the' doors
closed and charging tor it. Wonder if
the time won’t come wheu the doors
will be closed and so much charged to
hear a sermon preached ? As for the
difference, I believe it would be near
cr right to charge at the doors of a
church fur preaching than to give lec

people laugh.
