plies through us for the most meritorious patent during
the month preceding.
Wo secure the best patents for our clients,
and the object of this offer is to encourage inventors to
keep track of their bricht ideas. At the same time we
wish to impress upon the public the fact that
IT’S THE SIMPLE, TRIVIAL INVENTIONS
THAT YIELD FORTUNES,
such as the “car-window” which can be easily slid up
and down without breaking the passenger’s back,
“ sauce-pan,” “collar-button,” “nut-k>ck," “bottle
stopper,” and a thousand other little things that most
any one can find a way of improving; and these simple
inventions are the ones that bring largest returns to the
author. Try to think of something to invent.
■ * IT IS NOT SO HARD AS IT SEEMS.
Patents taken out through us receive special notice in
the “ National Recorder,” published at Washington,
D. C., which is the Dest newspaper published in America

We also advertise, free of cost, the invention each month
which wins our $l5O prize, and hundreds of thousands
of copies of the “National Recorder,” containing a
sketch of the winner, and a description of his invention,
will be scattered throughout the United States among
capitalists and manufacturers, thus bringing to their
attention the merits of the invention.
All communications regarded strictly confidential.

A Farmer on Hard Times.
There is so much being said in the
country about hard times and the
scarcity of money, and as everybody
has a cause and knows a remedy, I
thought I would write what I think
are some of the causes :
We let our timber rot and buy our
plow stocks, ax handles,
hoe handles, and fencing.
We throw away our ashes and buy
soap and axle grease.
We give away our beef hide and buy
harae strings and shoe strings.
We let our manure go to waste and
buy guano.
We buy garden seed in the spring
and buy cabbage in the winter.
We let our land grow up with weeds
and buy our brooms.— See.
How to Prevent Croup.
SOME BEADING THAT WILL PROVE
INTERESTING TO YOUNG MOTHERS.
HOWTO GUARD AGAINST THE DIS
EASE. ,
Croup is a terror to youug mothers
and to post th.ipi concerning the cause
first symptoms aud treatment is the
object of this item. The origin of
croup is a emmon cold. Children
who are subject to it take cold very
easily aud croup is almost sure to fol
low. The first symptom is hoarseness;
this is soon followed by a peculiar
rough cough, which is easily recogniz
ed and will never be forgotten by one
who has heard it. The time to act is
when the child first' becomes hoarse.
If Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is
freely given all tendency to croup will
soon disappear. Even after the croupy
cough has developed it will prevent the
attack. There is no danger in giving
this remedy for it contains nothing in
jurions. For sale by medicine dealers.

You Can Believe
The testimonials published in bebalf of
Hood's Sarsaparilla T hey are written
by honest people, who have actually
found in their own experience that
Hood's Sarsaparilla purifies the blood,
creates an appetite, strengthens the
system aud absolutely and permanent
ly cures all diseases caused by impure
or deficient blood.
Hood's Pills for the liver aud bowels
act promptly, easily and effectively.
When a person is losing flesh and
wisting away there is cause for alarm.
Nothing so worries a physician. Con
sumptives would never die if they
could regain their usual weight. In
fact there would be tin consumption il
there were no wasting of the system.
The cause of this loss of flesh is a fail
ure to properly digest the food eaten.
Nine tenths of all our diseases date
back to some derangemeut of the stom
ach.
The Shakers Digestive Cordial will
stop this wasting of the body. It acts
by causing the food we eat to be digest
ed so as to do good, for undigested
food does more harm than good. The
Cordial contaius food already digested
and a digester of foods as well.

Six weeks ago I suffered with a very
severe cold; was almost unable to
speak. My friends all advised me to
consult a physician. Noticing Cham
herlain’s Cough Remedy advertised in
the St. Paul Volks Zeitung I procured
a bottle, and after taking it a short
while was entirely well. I now most
heartily recommend this remedy to any
one suffering with a cold. Mm. Keil,
