A STORY FROM CAYUGA CO., N. Y.
Silaa Pennell, of Kllrs, If. Y., Win of m
Miracle of the Jtuulteuih
Century.
{Prom the Cayuga Cb M N. Y. f Independent.)
Hearing through Messrs. Allen & liurch,
druggists of Niles, that Mr. tilas Z. Fen
neii, a respii ;tcd citizen of that town had
been cured 4f a bad case of sciatic rheuma
tism by the use of Dr. Williams’ I‘in.v 1 ill*
for Paie People, the editor of the Cayuga
County Independent determined to know
the truth of the matter ami went out to
Niles. Mr. Pennell is a farmer nnd has a
neat and comfortable home near Niles. We
astved Mr. Pepnell if it was true that he had
been cured of a bad case of rheumatism by
Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills. He said that
three years ago in August 1891, he was
seized with severe pains in the hip, just
where the sciatic nerve is, which gradually
ran down his leg making life a misery to
him but not preventing him from doing
some work on farm. Soon after he was
loading hay when he slipped off the load
and hit his hip on the wheel. After this
he was worse, suffering groat agony, and
for some time was unable to do any work.
He took such medicines as hi a. physician
prescrib'd and improved somewhat so that
ne could help some around the farm again.
About Thanksgiving time he was helping to
put away some barrels of cider which *he hud
made, when he strained himself and asriin
became helpless. He then tried another
physician who felt confident of caring him
by the uje of the electric battery and medi
cines which he prescribed. But fiilure was
the result, he got no better, and another
physician was tried and treated him for
some time. By this time his whole body
was aifeoted. Sharp pains would start in
his hand or foot, run up one side of his
body, over his shoulders and then down the
other side and then pass off for a short time.
These paim would return regularly, affect
ing his whol* body, and nothing seemed to
relieve him and he began to doarmir of ever
being well. In the spring of 1802 a relative
in another county read of a case very simi
lar to Mr. Pennell’s, which had been cured
by Pink Pills, and sent the article to him,
asking if it did not suit his case. It was
very similar and he determin'd to tryihem.
He commenced taking Pink Fids and soon
felt better, the pains became less violent
with longer intervals between them. Ho
felt encouraged and persevered in their use
and soon became able to work on the farm,
and in April or Mav he felt so free from
pain that he considered hirarclf a well man
again. He sa;-s he has probably taken 20
boxes and able to do as good a day’s work as
any other man, and we can say that ho
looks like a hale and hearty man who had
never known sickness.
Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills contain all the
elements necessary to give new life and rich
ness to the blood and restore shattered
nerves. They are for sale by all druggists,
or may be had by m«il from Dr. Williams'
Medicine Company, Schenectady, N. Y., for
60c. ner box. or six boxes for $2.50.

Ely's Cream Balm
is acknowledged to be the most thorough
cure for Nasal Catarrh, Cold in Head and
Hay Fever, of all remedies. It opens and
cleanses the nasal passages, allays pain and
inflammation, heals the sores, prolects the
membrane from colds, restores the senses of
taste and smell. The Balm is applied di
rectly into the nostrils, is quickly absorbed
and gives relief at once. The results that
follow catarrh, due to the dropping of poi
sonous matter into the throat, are irritation
of the bronchial tubes and soreness of the
lunits accompanied by a cough. In all such
cases we recommend Pineola Balaam to be
used in connexion with Cream Balm
Ely’it ISalssini will be found
excellent for a'l throat and lung inflamma-
of those who suppose their cases to be con
sumption who aae only suffering from a
cbronig cold or deep seated cough, often
aggravated by catarrh. Both remedies are
pleasant to use. Price of Cream Balm, 50c

The recent anuiveasary of Lee’s
birthday has brought the following
beautiful tribute to the south’s leader,
by Beu Hill, iuto print agejn ;
“When the future historian comes to
survey the character eLLee, he will
find it risiug like a huge mountain above
the undulating plane of humanity, and
he will have to lift his eyes toward
heaven to catch its summit. He pos
sessed every virture of the other great
commanders without their vices. He
was a foe without hate, a friend with
out treachery, a soldier without cruelty
and a victim without murmuring. He
was a public officer without vices, a
private citizen witbaut wrong, a neigh
bor without reproach, a Christian with
out hypocrisy, and a man without guile.
He was Caesar without his ambition,
Frederick without his tyranuy, Napo
leon without his selfishness, and Wash

obedient to authority as a true king.
He was gentle as a womau in life, pure
and modest as a virgin in thought,
watchful as a liotnau vestal in duty,
submissive to law as Socrates and

HOW TO GUARD AGAINST THE DIS

Croup is a terror to youug mothers

object of this item. 'The origin of
croup is a common cold. Children
who are subject to it take cold very
easily aud croup is almost sure to fol
lov The first symptom is hoarseness;
this j" jon followed by a peculiar
rough cough, which is easily recogniz

who has heard it. The time to act is
when the child first becomes hoarse.
If Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is
freely given all tendency to croup will
soon disappear. Even after the croupy
cough has developed it will prevent the

this remedy for it contains nothing in

The following unique invocation is

McDonough, ga., Friday,
Plant Seeks Atlanta.
The prospect lor extending the
Georgia Midland to Atlanta seems to
g t better, and our, people would be
glad to see the work . commenced as
soon as possible. The following in
reference to it is the latest from the
daily papers :
“The rumor that the Plant system
his made arrangements to get iuto
Atlanta has been revived. According
to the latest reports, Mr. Plant has
bought the Georgia Midland and Gull
road aud will build that line on from
McDonough at once. This is the most
plausible of the many rumors that have
anseu, and comes from a railroad maD
of long experience. The Plant system
has loug needed an inlet to Atlanta
and by controlling the G. M. & G., it
has only to bui’d a link of about thirty
miles to accomplish that result. The
Columbus Southern is iu the hands of
a receiver and is for sale, and by secur
ing that, the Plant would have a direct
route to Atlanta over its own Hue.
Wheu the Atlanta & Florida was on
the market recently, Mr. Plant was
understood to be anxious to secure con
trol of it. This was his plan to reach
Atlanta. The Southern, however,
bought that line and Mr. Plant had to
look elsewhere for an outlet.”

The private Pullman palace car,
“Columbia,” which conveyed the pres
ideut and his party to Atlanta recent
ly, was the most elaborate affair of the
kind known to mechanical skill.
The “Columbia,” in fact, is the
handsomest and most expensive car
ever constructed: Work ou it began
over two years ago at Pullman, 111.,
and it was completed ouly a short time
ago.
The drawing and state rooms are
finished variously in Santiago and
white mahogany, vermillian wood and
Caucasian walnut, with plush uphol
stery and embroidered silk panels to
match.
The “Columbia is heated hy steam
aud lighted with Pilscb gas lamps of
the finest modern pattern. The entire
car is fitted with water arrangements
operated by air pressure. The cost of
this great palace on wheels is estimated
at $25,000.
