Miss Annie Reese is visiting friends

to her home in Marshalville.
Mr. Hugh McDonald went over to
his Newton county fatm last Wednes
day, remaining until yesterday.
Several North Georgia apple wagons
were iu town this week, and being the

A cotton seed house has been located
on the lot opposite the masonic hall,
for use by the Jackson Oil Mill Co.
Miss Laura Sloan accompanied her
sister and the groom on their bridal
trip home to Florida, where she will
spend the winter.
Another detatchment of northern
emmigrants passed through McDon
ough Monday on their way to the new
town in Wilcox county.
Uncle Alsie Harris, a noble old gen
tleman of Flippen, visited his daughter

W. 11. Wakefield will be in McDon
ough Saturday, Dec. 14, with a car
load of genuine Kentucky mules. Will

Miss Mary Lou Carter of Orlando,
Fla., spent Friday and Saturday in the
city, the guest of her cousin, the editor,
ou her way from the exposition.
Miss Florence Moss, a beautiful
young lady of Mabelton, is visiting her
sister, Mrs. H. C. Bridges, and will
remain until after the holidays.

turns thanks to Mrs. Joe Elkins for
some very nice sausage. They were

Mr. 11. W. Williamson, the genial
and handsome insurance ageut who
now makes his headquarters at Mc-
Donough, was a visitor here lost Sun

Mr. and Mrs Charles Jordan of
Columbus, visited Mrs. Jordan s pa
rents, Col. and Mrs. C. T. Zachry, at
Peacbstone last week. They returned
to Columbus last Sunday.
Collector Harper announces that the
tax books will be closed just at suu
down on the 20th day of this month —
which is one week from to day. Be

Mr. Harmon H. Harvey has about
recovered from the injuries received
not long since by being knocked from
the railroad track by a locomotive,

at the Presbyterian church, or between

Henry county will soon lose one of
her fair daughters to Fayette, if regu
lar weekly visits siguify anything, ac
cording to rumors of the next matri
monial ties—and it’s not to be many
leagues from Flippen.
Prof. A. J. Crumbley and brother
Walter, of Burwell, Carroll county,
have been visiting Henry county friends
for the past two weeks. Misses Ludie
and Willie Moore of near Phillipi re
turned home wi'h them.
Mr. T. J. Westmoreland of Hamp
ton district gave The Weekly a
pleasant call Wednesday. His cheer
ful disposition, deprived of eyesight as
he is, should be a living lessou to his
more fortunate fellow-mau.
Mrs. A. C. Nolan returned yester
day from Atlauta, where she has been
visiting relatives for several weeks.
She was accompanied by charming
Miss Perry Henderson, who will be
the guest of Mrs. Jack Nolan until
Christmas.
Cards are out announcing the mar
riage of Mr. Clarence Harris aud Miss
Tailie Johnson, at the Methodist
church in Flippen, at 6 o’clock next
Wednesday night, the 18th inst. They
are popular young people, and the hap
py event is looked forward to with
great pleasure by numerous friends.
Mr. B. L. Daughtry, the popular
manager of the Star Store aud one of
Jackson’s leading and most enterpris
ing merchants, was in the city Monday
aud gave The Weekly a pleasant
call. He reports business lively with
his excellent house this season, and the
outlook more aud more encouragiug.
Mr. J. Q. Nolan has been appointed
superintendent of the Methodist Sun
day School, to fill the uuexpired time
of Mr. Stewart, until the regular elec
tion. He assumed his duties last Sun
day, and was happy in his words of
acceptance, coupled with an earnest
appeal for co operation of teachers
ami pupils.
Under the direction of Miss Annie
Reese, the efficient music teacher, a
delightful entertainment was given
at the close ot McDonough High
School last Friday night. It consisted
of music and recitutious, aud was high
ly enjoyed by those piesent, the selec
tions being nicely rendered by the
pupils to whom they were assigned.
Editor J. E. Pouud, of the Madison
(Fla.) Recorder, a boyhood friend and
“chum” of the writer, was a welcome
guest at our humble domicile a day
and night this week. Editor Pound is
one of “nature’s uoblemen,” to which
we can testify through thorough ties
of past associations; and it affords us
pleasure to know he is meeting that
degree of success and popularity, in his
place of citizenship as a Floridian, to
which merit entities him. Come again,

At 2 o’clock on Wednesday after
noon last, at the residence of the
bride’s parents, Captain and Mrs.
W. C. Sloan, iu this city, Mr. W. P.
Bellinger of Waukeeuah, Fla., and
Miss Euphemia Sloan were happily
united iu marriage.
Miss Phe is one of McDonough’s
social favorites, aud with her charming
accomplishments, the husband who has
won her affections and life companion'
ship is indeed to be congratulated.
Mr. Bellinger is a successful young
merchant of his town, and the happy
pair begin life under favorable auspices,
amid the benedictions aud good wishes
of numerous friends.
The ceremony was a quiet home af
fair, performed in the presence of the
immediate family and a few intimate
friends, by Rev. J. F. Pharr.
Mr. and Mrs. Bellinger boarded the
5 o'clock afternoon tram, for the home
of the groom in the laud of flowers
ond orange blossoms, where they will
reside.

the Instilute Dec. 20, iB for the Insti
tute, and not the Faculty. A fee of
25c and 15c will be charged, and the
proceeds expended for lights for the
hall.
Let all the friends of the Institute
interest themselves in this and give us
a good house.

exercises, and ministers, will be ad
mitted free of charge.

Killing.
Another killing has occurred in Hen
ry county this week. It is iu Sandy
Ridge district, where Will Wright,
colored, killed another negro named
Charlie Christian.
Full particulars have not been ob
taiued, but we learn that they were
engaged in the notorious “skin” game,
gambling, when a difficulty arose which
eudbd iu Christian's death.
The murder occurreil Monday night
and the Coroner was sent for Tuesday,
when the jury pronounced the killing iu
self defense aud Wright was left free.
Christian was generally pronounced
a bad negro.
Married.
At the residence of the bride’s fath
er, Mr. T. S. Elliott, near White
House last Sunday Mr. “Doc” Crumb
ley and Miss Lemmie Elliott were
happily united in marriage, Rev. J. I.
Stephens on performing the ceremony.
