It seems that Georgia republicans
are for McKinley "teeth and trenails, ’’
high tariff and all.
Ilev. \V. M. Bridges, Floyd county’s
school commissioner, is a defaulter to
the amount of $3,000.
Guano and mules are about the first
words now when a lien is opened.
Cheap cotton and poverty just behind.
Mr. J. F. Creel of Bluff ton kilted a
Duroc lersy hog weighing 660 pouuds,
from which ha obtained two barrsls of
lard.
The dispensary profits have averaged
about SO,OOO per annum since the Ath
ens dispensary was founded in October,
1891.
Bacon and Bartlett have both de
clared for free silver, but announce
they will stay in the party if they do
not get it.
Information from Cuba states that
two thirds of the insurgent army are
from the United States, m ny of them
being southerners.
Georgia was repersented to the ex
tent of $300,000 in the subscriptions to
the recent government bonds, the bills
ranging from SSO on up.
It is not yet too late for tho planters
to study about the size of their cotton
crop. And the matter is one that is
certaiuly worth thinking about.
A small crop of cotton this year
following that of 1805, would make
the farmers independent. Another one
next year would change them from
isouey borrowers to money lenders.
The B ; tuaiim is entirely in their
control.
Uncle Jimmie Anderson is check
full of pun and fun. Just listen at him:
"The man who says Congressman
Turner is wearing Congressman Pal
zell’s (republican) shoes, tells a Ping
lie, because they are Dingley’s shoes!
Fact!”
The republican national convention
is the first to meet, and will assemble in
St. Louis on the 16th of June.
The democrats meet in Chicago on
the 7th of July.
The populists meet in St. Louis on
the 22d of July.
There are fourteen gold mines in
active operation on the line between
McDnffio aud Wilkes counties. The
most extensive and profitable of these
is owned and operated by Mrs. J. Bell
nap Smith, who employes between for
ty and fifty bands and who personally
supervises every detail of the business.
We are glad to learn that the fight
against barrooms is again on. Let •ev
ery man who loves his home, his wife
aud h ; s cbildern go to work for this
cause, and Georgia will soon he rid of
uu enemy that is doing her more hurt
than did Sherman in his march to the
sea.—Ex.

Judge Bartlett is a democrat, and
while we differ w ith him on his financial
views, we can hut admire his unswerv
ing devotion to his party. A North
Carolina populist the other day asked
our congressman if he would vote for a
gold bug democrat if such a man was
nominated by the patty. Judge Bartlett
replied: “I will vote for any man the
majority of my party may nominate at
Chicago.”—Thomaston Times.
The Baptists of Georgia, who are strong
in the state, are planning a “campaign
of education” which cannot fail to be
of interest to the people at large The
objective point in the campaign is

Sore fiugers, a sprained foot, a bad
c--Id and the death of an only sisier,
Mrs. E. C. Wairen, near Locust
Grove, accounts for my silence last
week. •
People have been putting in full
timo ou the farms during the past few
dry days.
Miss Mattie Mooten, of Friskey,
visited the family of neighbor \V. A.
Hooteu Saturday and Suuday.
One sixth of this leap year is gone,
and bachelor Bud Rivers is not married
yet.
John Stone says the crib ho carried
to Oliver Jones' shop for repairs is not
a corn crib, but a meat crib.
Measle shops here are only ruining
on half time now for want of material,
and it is likely they will close down
entirely before long.
A new store house is being erected
at Beersheba, soon to be occupied by
Uncle Brooks Bryans, whose old store
house was long sii.ee turned over to
Chief Justice W. H. Bryans for a tem
pie of justice. Friskey is also boast
ing of a boom, while many new build
ings are going up all over the county
round about. Come down, Mr. Editor,
and watch the state of Beersheba
grow.
It is not the custom of F. A. M's. to
persuade anyone to join their mystical
order, but there seems to bo an order
of Masons over in the state of Sandy
Ridge whose regular attentions to some
girls arouur here indicates that they
may be persuading the girls to join
them
Mt. Bethel will now have preaching
twice a mouth, each secoud and fourth
Sunday. Rev. Mr. Bowden, of Lilab,
filled his first appointment there last
Sunday, and preached an able and in
teresting sermon on parentt.l and espe
cially paternal control of children,
from 1 Samuel, III—I 2.
The hills of Tussahaw have always
been famous for producing beautiful
girls iu great numbers, and I would
not if I could detract anything from
this justly merited fame, but if Plow
Boy thinks that vicinity bolds any
thing like a monopoly in that line by
reason of either the number or charms
of its girls, all be needs to convince
him of his mistake is to explore the
interior of the great state of Beersheba.
He would return home in about the
same state of mind that the Queen of
Sheba returned after her visit to King
Solomon.
White House “Dennis’’ talks flu
ently, and maybe koowingly of things
too high for me, such things as county
and national bond issues. The fact is
1 would not know a finance of any
kind if I weie to meet it in the road, but
when Dennis concludes that I will
quit talking through my hat at my first
opportunity to have a hut to talk
through he is at least illogical. If
criticising the follies of Populism and
its twin brother anti-Clevelundism is
what he calls talking through a hat I
have a better reasou than he assigns
to refrain from these things at present
No one with any heart can chide a
child while it is being punished by a
parent for its faults, however deserv

stretched across the knee o f his father,

say anything harsh or reproachful to
the lad Of course Populism tries to
deny this parentage truthfully ascribed
to him, but his birth in St. Louis,
Feb 22. 181)1, is so plainly recorded on
every page of recent history that a
successful denial is out of the question.
So when confronted with this record
lie simply breaks down and sobs like
ihe whipped child that be really is.

After iuteuse suffering with pneu

of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Daniel, passed
to the haven of rest February 15th.
Her remains were iuterred at Phila

officiated iu a very appropriate man

She came on Xmas morning as a
jewel to brighten her home, but God
soon found need of such a gem in Ilis

so sweet to think of Jessie in heaven,
and we would not have her here
again, but bow submissively to “Thy

They have become so plentiful that

The sudden death of Mrs. Craig is a
warning to all, that life is uncertain

monster death may claim you as its

Harvey Ripe has come out in a

This community was shocked Satur
day morning by the almost sudden
death of Mrs. Lucinda Craig, at her
her homo near Lilali. bhe had recent
ly drawn her pension money, and as
she wanted to make preparations for her
supplies for this year, she went to Mc-
Donough Friday evening for that pur
pose. On her return home, she was
taken sick very suddenly. All the mod
ical aid was given her that was possi
ble, but to no avail. She lingered on
until about four o’clock Saturday
morning, when death relieved her of
her sufferings. Mrs. Craig was a
widow, her husbanu having died sever
al years ago. She leaves a large fam
ily of grown children to mourn her
death. Her remains were followed to
the last resting plac < by a large con
course of friends and relatives. She
was laid to rest in the cemetery of
Philadelphia Sunday m irniug after an
appropriate funeral service, conducted
by Rev T J Bledsoe. Pi.ow Boy.
