Gov. Atkinson recently appointed
the Jackson Banking Co. a state de

high esteem in which that solid insti

Co. is widening out aud iu this issue is
offering to make loaus to the Henry
county people. They not only want
to loan money, but solicit deposits and
will take care of the people’s money
without cost or expense to them, and
where it remains for six months or
longer will by special contract pay

Strobhar—Bryan.
Ou Thursday evening, March 13th,
at 7 o clock, there was a beautiful
wedding at the home of Col aud Mrs.
George W. Bryan, which uuited in
holy bonds of matrimouy their daugh
ter, Miss Lois, to Mr. Cecil Wilder
Strobhar. Rev. J. F. Pharr, in a
most impres-ive manner, pronounced
the words which linked together the
lives of these two popular young peo
ple, making them husband aud wife
for better or worse unto the eud.
The bride is one of the most beloved
of McDonough’s fair daughters, a
womanly woman, accomplished aud
gifted, with rare graces that have drawn
around her a large circle of friends
and admirers. He who has been so
fortunate as to win her heart and hand
is a prominent young business man of
McDonough, who is in every way
worthy of the jewel he has taken unto
himself, and who will be to him a lov
ing wife aud help meet through life.
After the ceremony delightful re
freshments were served in the diuing
room and parlor. There were quite
a large mumber of presents, some of
which were exquisitely beautiful aud
attractive.
Quite ‘ a number of friends were
present to witness the ceremony and
extend best wishes aud congratulations
to the happy pair, iu all of which The
Weekly heartily joins.

Against Bonds.
'1 be bond election YYfednesday was
perhaps the most quiet general election
ever known in Henry county. In Me
Donough from outward appearances no
one would have ever known it was go
ing on. As far as heard from as we
go to press, the returns indicate a vote
of about one hundred to three hundred
against. In McDonough the vote was
52 to 31 against, Stockbridge 50 to 2
against, Flippen 12 to 8 against, Ber
sheba 10 to 1 for, and it is estimated
that the other districts will make the
result about as above stated.

VloD Hiougli Monday and gave Tut
W eekt.v a pleasant call.
Air. Daughtry has just returned from
at extensive trip to the northern and
eastern markets, and in an interview
stated that he lias purchased a very
large, first class and exceedingly baud
some stock of goods for his firm, to he
placed in McDonough. They are all
ready to he opened up, too, as soon as
the new store room receives the finish
ing touches, which will be by or soon
after the first of uext month, if noth
ing further prevents.
Speaking of their McDonough busi
uess, Mr. Oaughtry said : “We will
carry oue of the largest, best aud most
complete stocks of goods to he found
auywhere. Iu fact, we are going to
ruu a first class, up to date dry goods
aud millinery store—one of which not
ouly the town, but the entire couutry
around will be proud.
“Aud as for prices, we will not yield
to Atlanta, Macon or any other place.
For iustauce, shoes will be oue of our
special departments, aud we will make
a big run ou them. Trices on shoes
have declined, and we will sell them at
the same low figures they formerly
were, having bought after the decline,
while other merchants were caught on
high prices. Iu this line we will be
simply beyond competition.
“It is impossible to meution every
thing, but iu short, we will be prepared
ta furnish the best- of goods for all
classes of trade from the McDonough
Star Store, aud we only ask th 6 peo
people to give us an opportunity and
we will satisfy them in every respect.’’
Mr. Daughtry is an intelligent, affa

has no superior He talks freely of
his firm’s McDonough busiuess, aud
we are safe iu assuring our people that
;u the McDonough Star Store they
will fiud a first class, up to date estah

Our worthy- brother J. A. Fouche of

boasting lately ot McDonough’s growth

grow. Indeed we shall take pleasure
in watching them grow as they are be
ing fostered by Jackson and shown the
way to activity and prosperity. After
they have been asleep up there about
30 years Jacksou has takeu hold of
them aud given them a good shaking up
and now they are rubbing their eyes
and are just beginning to realize that
it is possible for them to grow. Indeed
we will watch you grow with pleasure
as this growth has its beginning iu Jack

you will be compelled to grow or get
out of the way. We will give brother
Fouche this pointer too, which is good
