As 1 have been absent sometime 1
will pen a few lines on the facts in the
case. I see the weekly correspondents
are getting fired upon politics. Now
let us have none of that. Stop, brother,
and think. We are all Americans born
in a once free country, and all have
our own way of thinking Grant all
their libity to think and vote as they
plea-e, and don’t kick. Before I gu
any farther, let me say that I will
second the nomination of Rnal for
president of these Uuited States if he
will pledge himself in favor of free
coinage of silver, without doubt. No
man need ask me to vote for him for
any office from bailiff up, unless he
stauds square and flat footed on the
silver plank. This is my platform,
independent of Rual or any one else.
Enough of this.
Our community is quiet on politics.
We have a great deal of rain, but it
is all for the best.
We have a very good school here,
taught by Mrs. Mattie Powell, whom
every body likes as a teacher.
There is very little visiting up here,
so you need not look for much of that
kind of news.
Mr. Oscar King and sister passed
through here a few days ago enrouto
to their uncles at Moore's Mill, and I
saw Marion Rawlins pass down the
road Sunday on his wheel. Subject.
Capt Ed Cor, who has been super
intendent of the convict camp at Cole
City, and who has been a prominent
figure in the late coDvict investigation,
has sent in his resignation. He could
see no other way to make the prisoners
accomplish the required tasks in many
iustances without whipping, and as this
did not meet the views of some of the
lessees he resigned.

The Dream of Life.
The penniless youth fell iuto a deep
sleep.
“Ah,” he dreamed, “if only I had
hut |5,000 a year, what good might 1
not do! How happy I could b*-! Wbat
pr. sents I could bestow, what delights
I could bring to so many! The poor
should kuow my humble but discerning
charity; the needy should uot appeal
in vain. Ah, if I had but had $5,000 a
year secured, what a life I should lead!
How noble aud generous 1 could show
myselt!”
The years rolled by. The peuniless
youth was now worth SIOO,OOO. Ouce
more he fell into a deep sleep.
“Ah,” be dreamed, “if 1 could ac
cumulate $1,000,000, how happy I
should be! How 1 could enjoy life!
What power I should possess! VYbat
influence, what authority! How men
would look up to me, and admire me
and seek my friendship. Truly, that
would be happiuess, greatness, and
joy!”
The millionaire dozed iu his easy
chair.
“Ah,” he dreamed,“ could I but
turn my million iuto ten millious! could
I but add to my wealth! Ceuid I but
get a higher rate of interest; could 1
but invest to a greater advantage! Could
1 but change my million into teu mil
lions! Could I but do it, could 1 but
do, it could I but do it!”

Glad to be Kid of Mrs. Lease.
Jerry Simpson in a recent interview,
said:
“I don’t know whether Mrs. Lease
really means to abandon politics or
not, but I hope she does. She has
never been anything but a disturbing
element in politics, and while she is a
woman of gieat ability, she is too ag
gressive aud She wants
to be ‘great 1 am’ all the t ; me. She
won’t tolerate anybody else's views
and is always cauß : ug trouble. She’s
a lot’s better off in the pulpit than in
politics, and I hope she’ll stay there.”
When Mrs. Lease’s attention was
called to Brother Simpson's remarks
she replied:
“Life is too short and my time too
fully occupied to pay attention to
every barking cur or step on every
worm that crawls across my path.”
A cai.vase among the druggists of
this place reveals the fact that Cbamb
lain’s are the most popular proprietary
medicines sold. Chambr rlain’s Cough
Remedy, especially, is regarded as in
the lead of all throat trouble remedies,
and as such, is frequently precribed by
physicians. As a croup medicine, it
is also unexcelled, and most families
with young children keep a bottle al
ways on hand for instant use. The

Will people never learn that a “coal”
is an accident to he dreaded, aud that
wtien it occurs treatment should be

where the trouble will end; and while
complete recovery is the rule, the ex
ceptions are terribly frequent, and
thousands upon thousands of fatal ill
nesses occur every year ushered in by
a little injudicious exposure ami seem

there are to day countless invalids who
