The hoys of McDonough Institute
thought they had a Hue April fool
when they nailed up the doors early
Wednesday morning, and waited to
see the fuu. But they were complete
ly “sold” when, at the regular hour,
they were quietly called to order “out
doors” under the large oak tree and
proceeded “to books” as if nothing
had happened. Glad they were when
permitted to restore everything to
order and get to their accustomed
seats. Perhaps the , ‘cheapest” pen
itent was the b : g fellow who crawled
under the house and hauled the water
bucket from its bidiug place.
McDonough has beau adorued with
several handsome new signs in the past
week or so, which are in appropriate
keeping with her line of improvements.
The most prominent among these is that
of Messrs. H. J. Copeland, Sous & Co.
covering the north side uf their build
ing, and is the first thing that catches
the eye on that side of town. The
Sttar Store has also placed one across
the front of their haudsome new store
which is very neat aud attractive;
while the Racket Store has ornamented
the front windows of its new quarters
with elegant gold lettering which rivals
any of the late city style. McDouough
continues to grow—watch her.

Trestle Caught Fire.
Several McDonough passengers
had a thrilling experience last
Sunday night while returning
from the Sam Jones meeting
in Atlana. Upon reaching the trestle
over Cotton Indian creek, beyond
Stockbridge, it was discovered to be
ou fire, and as the engineer did not see
it in time to stop, the whole train
dashed through the flames, which were
high in the air and created a big illu
mination. Fortunately the trestle had
not burned sufficiently to weaken it,
and the train passed over without dam
age. It went back and the crew, as
sisted by the passengers, soon extin
guished the flames. It is described as
au exciting time, but most of the ex
citement came after passing the trestle,
as the passengers did not realize what
the trouble was until they were over it
The same trestle was found burning
again Tuesday afternoon when the
down train reached it, and put out
by the crew. It is not known whether
either fire originated from passing en
gines or was the work of incendiaries.
Marvelous Results.
Fiom a letter writteu by Rev. J.
Guuderiuan, of Dimondale, Mich., we
are permitted to make this extract: “I

Junction she was brought down with
Fueutnonia succeeding LaGrippe.

Raster Sunday.
Next Sabfiath is Easter Sunday.
From tune immemorial it has been
decided that Easter Sunday should be
the first Sunday after the first lull
moon, after the 21st of March.
From the gospel we 'earn that alter
Jesus, the Christ, had eaten the pass
over supper He went into the garden
where He was betrayed, was taken,
tried aud crucified; that He arose on
the third day, aud it is to celebrate this
resurrection that Easter is observed
It signifies joy at the awakening of
nature front the depths of winter, aud
is a type of the resurrection of Jesus
from the tomb.
This sacred festival is celebrated
with devotion in all lands. On that
day the Russians salute each other
with a kiss aud the words: “Christ has
risen,” and the response is “He has
risen indeed.”
All nature rejoices that the heauti
ful spring, with its flowers and fruits,
is to succeed the dull, cold winter.
“The Lord bath risen, that erst was horn,
Within a manger lowly,
And all that ere was lost or lone
May now be pure and holy.
“He knew the manger aud the cross,
He knew the grave’s dark prison.
But now beyond all woe and loss
Our glorious Lord hath risen.
Bring flower and leaf and garland gay-
Sing bird, ring bell the story,
The Lord has indeed risen today
And reigns for us in glory.”

The Georgia Midland and Gulf rail
road has been reorganized under a new
charter, and the track may now soon
be extended to Atlauta.

“A new charter tor the reorganized
Georgia Midloud and Gulf railroad was
