or so early in the season has ruined the sale of wool goods in colors and the people are buying from us the pretty Dimities, Lawns, Organdies, Linen and other
Summer Fabrics, and leaving these high priced goods behind. So we don’t want to carry them over and Pave made these prices to get rid of them. There are

Editor Henry County Weekly:
During last week there came to this
place, ostensibly to have a camp fish,
quite a party of young men, all loaded
with guns of various descriptions and
plenty of very mean whiskey, aud as
soon as dark came on they begau to
make things hideous. Hollowing,
cursing, shooting aud every othor
means possible was brought into use to
make the night hideous for every citi
sen, even for miles around. This out
rageous conduct was kept up all night,
very much to the utter disgust of our
village. Early next morning quite a
number of our citizeus collected to
gether to put the malicious marauders
to flight, but very much to their credit
they had tiiwu. We wish to notify
this party (and all others of like stripe)
that our people will uot submit to any
more such punishment. The oldest
citizens around here say they never
have known of just such conduct in the
community. We have the names of
each of the party, aud if iu the future
they are guilty of any misconduct in
this community we will see if we have
any redress in the courts.

The Kiuaucial Question.
Editor Weekly :
Oue of the chief points dwelt upon
i by the lion. F. G. duliiguou in bis
speech in McDonough was that the
silver wing of the Democratic party
were advocating cheap money he said,
and defied contradiction, and I dont
contradict it, that 23 22-100 grains of
1 gold was worth a hundred cents aud
would buy oue hundred cents worth of
any commo.hiy without the stamp of
the U S. Government upon it; but
that 371 1-4 grains of silver would
only buy fifty one ceuts worth uuder
the same circumstances.
As I said before, I do not deny it.
I But let me ask why Mr. dußiguou di<
i uot tell the people, in ail of his fair
! ness, that silver would have done the
same thing, or more, before it was
demonitized in 1873? And why did
he not tell the people that 371 14
grains of stiver will do it agaiu if res
' tored as one of the monies of final
| redumptiou?
And why did he not tell the people
that had gold been demonitized instead
of silver that the purchasing power ol
the bullion would be reversed from
what it is now?
He said that the Atlanta Cotistitu
tion and its followers are always crying
the high price of money and the low
price of commodities. As an illustra
tion, he said that forty years ago a
woman with a loom could weave five or
six yards of cloth per day, but that
now the same woman with the im
proved fecilities could weave sixty
yards of cloth—he said that every one
could see why the price of commodities
fell.
He says the basis of value is a day’s
work Let me say that the basis of all
commerce, of all living, of all existence,
of all manner of business is the agri
cultural iuterest of the country, the
producers, and that the cloth is an
after consideration of the raising of the
cotton. Now let me ask if that woman
or any other woman or man can pro
duce teu times more cotton by a day’s
labor than they could forty years ago?
It’s not the manufacturers, although
they are hurt, they are being hurl as

his system.
In dwelling on the “uulimited" fea
tore or plank iu the silver platform he
stated that the output of silver bullion
had been increased from eighty one
million in 1834 to two hundred and
fourteen million iu 1895. That this is
true Ido not deny, but he answered
it and gave good reasons iu his cloth
illustration, and I will add that the in
creasing consumption demands it and
will continue to demand more. When
he gets his silver bath tub and silver
bed stead, if m iuy people use them,
not only the Andes but several other
ranges of mountains must give up their
hidden treasures iu increased amounts.
Llut I will state that it will not be

of these luxuries, when financially em
einharassed, can carry them to the

with a goodly load of American dollars.
