CASTORIA
for Infants and Children.
OTHERS, Do You Kwow^r.^,
B*| Bateman’s Drops, Godfrey's Cordial, many so-called Soothing Syrups, and
v most remedies for children arc composed of opium or morphine ?
Ho Yon Know that opium and morphine arc stupefying narcotic poisons?
Ho Von Know that in most countries druggists are not permitted to sell
narcotics without labelling them poisons ?
Ho Von Know that you should not permit any medicine to be given your
child unless you or your physician know of what it is composed ?
Ho Yon Know thatCastoria is a purely vegetable preparation, and that a list
of its ingredients is published with every bottle ?
ijt up von Know that Castor;a is the prescription of the famous Dr. Samuel
Pitcher. That it has been in use for nearly thirty years, and that more Castoria is
now sold than of all other remedies for children combined ?
Ho Von Know that the Patent Office Department of the United States, and of
other countries, have issued exclusive right to Dr. Pitcher and his assigns to use the word
u Castoria " and its formula, and that to imitate them is a state prison offense ?
Ho Yon Know that one of the reasons for granting this government-protection
was because Castoria had been proven to lie absolutely harmless? f
Ho Von Know that 35 average doses of Castoria are furnished for 33
cents, or one cent a dose ?
Ho Von Know that when possessed of this perfect preparation, your children
will be kept well, and that you will have unbroken rest ?
Well, these things are worth knowing. They are facts.

QtfKSnoN 11. —Are the lime and other
ingredients in ha -ilwood ashes worth
anything as fertilizers for liold crops?
Wh at is the value of a ton of hardwood
ashes? How many pounds of ashes will
a cord of hardwood make ?
Ahswf.b 11.—The fertilizing properties
in unleaehed hardwood ashes are potash
and phosphoric acid.
The other ingredients have no special
fertilizing properties, but do help the
crops somewhat by putting the soil in a
bettor mechanical condition, permitting
it to be worked with more ease and
rendering it easier for the foodiug roots
to penetrate in ovory direction.
A ton of unleached hardwood ashes
is worth from $5.00 to SO.OO.
You will get from two to three pounds
of ashes to every 100 pounds of wood; I
don’t know how much to the cord.—

Sorai>lne A way Dirt from I'uach Tree*.
Question 1’?. — Is it the proper time to
scrape away the dirt from the base of
my peach trees, for the purpose of kill
tug the bona’s? When must the dirt be
put back ?
Answer 13. — This work should havo
been done much earlier, say about the
first of November, but better do it now
than leave it undone, as the borers will
certainly do your trees great damage if
lot alone. Scrape away the earth around
the base of the tree, down to the hori
sontal roots. Then kill all the borers
possiblo, by cutting out with a sharp
knife where they have not entered too
far into the wood: in that case run a wire
into the holes and you will kill most of
them. From the middle of February to
the middle of March— according to lo
cality—fill up the hole about the tree
with fresh soil from the woods if easily
obtained. Filling the hole with ashes,
is also recommended.
In either case, pile the oarth or ashes
about the stem of the tree, several iuch
es higher than the surrounding ground.

out in the rain
A good drenching in a cold rain is often the beginning
of consumption. Yet no one claims that the germs of this
disease existed in the rainwater. Then how was this brought
about ? The exposure was followed by a cold; the vitality was
lowered; the cough continued for some weeks; the throat
and lungs became congested; and thus all the conditions
were favorable for the growth of the consumption germs.
Scotß &tixiikfcru
of Cod-liver Oil,with hypophosphites, does not directly attack
these germs and kill them. But it does tone up the whole
system and restores the body to health before serious harm
is done. The germs of consumption thrive best when the
system is weakened and the throat and lungs congested. Do
not delay until it is too late, but treat your cough early.

Question. —Will you give me a
cheaper and quicker plan of propagating
Bermuda grass, than that of buying the
high priced seed, sowing and waiting

Answer. —Procure the sod or roots,
wash out the dirt, which is done most
effectually and iu the shortest time by
placing in a stream of running water—
then run through an ordinary cutting
machine with the knives so adjusted as
to chop up fine. Sow this broadcast as
for wheat, and plow iu shallow. Of

(Prom the lOin.ua Mu. , Journal.)
The following ponsesies Bn interest to tbs
Journal and its readers, becaus ■ the case
is of great value from s medical point of
view, and further because it is sworn to uml
its truth absolutely proven. The case de
scribed is that of the daughter of L. L.
Barhor of Edgerton, Kan., who being duly
sworn on oath deposes and says:
During the spring of the current year,
1893, niv daughter Bertie, aged 13 years, be
came afflicted with a nervous disease which
grew upon her to such an extent that it se
riously interfered with her studies, and
aroused the gravest f ats that it would de
velop into St. Vitus' dance. M v daughter
became so nervous that she would drop her
knife and fork while eating, and would at
6m.-‘ be seized with nervott- twitchingi
which excited the alarm of myself and wile.
About this time my wife read in a news
pi tow of a wonderful cure of the.same disease
erected by Dr. Williams’ Pink l’illd for Pale
People. So strongly was I impressed with
the facts set forth in the testimonial that I
wrote to a certain the authenticity of t:>«
case. Receiving a reply which completely
s ’iifled in , 1 nt for a box of the pills.
From tli very tir.it dose a marked im
proven ent in my daughter's condition was
noticed. She had become thin aud exces
sively pal**, as is common to sufferers fr >ra
nervous diseases, and her weight had do*
crca sd to an alarming extent. After a
careful and thorough trial of the pills, she
not only bo ;an to grow less nervous butaiso
betas to gain (lesh.
li is need ess to say that I was both sur
prised and delighted with the wonderful
cliauge brought about by the first box of tha
pills. She is a new girl, and all the symp.
t im, of her disease have disappeared. I)r.
Wditems’ Pink Pills have certainly wrought
a wonderful and complete cnr\ and 1 can
say nothing too good in their favor. But
now she is away on a visit, something slit
would not have thought of being able to do
lures months ago. Prom being shrinking,
morbid and timid she has become a strong,
healthy girl with no appearance of ever
having been afflicted with any nervous trou
bles. The pills have done wonders, and I
take great pleasure in recommending them
to a!) who are ad! cted wiih a similar
disease. (Signed) L. L. Bakbor.
Subscribed ami sworn to before me Lilia

M rs. Sarbor, who was present, declared
that they owed their daughter’s life to Pink
Pills.
