HENRY CO. WEEKLY.
J. A. FOUCHE, Editor.
Entered at the postoffice at McDonough
Ga„ as se ootid-class mail matter.
Payment for legal advertisements
required in advance.
McDonough, Ga., Oct. 23 1896
Kxtra Edition.
Considering the circumstances, we
offer this extra edition of The Week
ly without apology. It would have
been more complete iu both reading
matter and advertisements, but as we
decided definitely only two weeks ago
to get it out, uo public mention was
made of the fact, consequently all the
business men could not be soeu iu time
to prepare suitable advertisements, or
more of them would have been repre
reuted. Then in the hurry and con
fusion of work it was impossible to
make the reading matter as perfect aud
extensive as desired. Little does the
average reader realize the amount of
labor aud worry required to produce
a paper like this issue of The Week
ly.
However, it is the biggest Henry
County Weekly ever issued—and
this fact is at least some consolation to
the publisher.
Killed by a <«ln.
A horrible accident occurred at
the gin bouse of Mr. J. B. Russell, in
McMullen’s district last Friday after
noon, by which Mr. Johuce Owen lost
his life.
Mr. Owen was cleaning seed away
from the gin, when his arm was caught
iu the saws and torn literally to pieces
resulting iu his death iu a short while.
It is said there was no very great loss
of blood, but the shock was so severe
the victim sank under it. Those who
witnessed the mangled limb describe it
as au awful sight.
Mr. Owen was just tweuty one years
old the day before, au industrious, de
serving young man, aud his sad, un
timely ending is deeply regretted by
those who knew him.

COUNTY TOWNS.
A Brief Review of lho Points
Which Supply Old Henry’s
Regular Commerce.
LOCUST GROVE
Is one of the livest and best little
towns iu Middle Georgia. Her citi
zens comprise some of the best aud
most substantial, her business men are
among the best, she is all the time im
proving, and all go to make up a most
desirable locality. A large oil mill
which is in regular operation every
season, shows the progressive spirit of
her business men, aud they have made
a most cretitable record. The location
of the large school of the Flint River
Baptist Association there recently, is
also a valuable addition to Locust
Grove.
Several of the Grove’s live merch
ants have advertisements in this extra
edition of The Weekly.
IIA MPTON.
Has long been known for the best
uud cleverest people to be found any
where, aud they always sustain their
reputation for pleasaut and cordial hos
pitality. Hampton has some elegant
homes, and iu point of cheapness aud
other attractions is a desirable place
to live.
There are some spliudid merchants
in the town, though none of them are
represented in The Weekly’s adver
tising columns for this issue. Some
of the largest and best stocks to be fouud
iu any country town are carried by
them, aud the trade is well supplied.
The Weekly wasfounded iu Hamp
ton, aud we shall always have a kindly
feeeliug and good word lor the “dear
old place.”
LLKI.LA.
One of the most bustling and pros
perous little towns anywhere just now
is Lue'la. For the past two years it
has made rapid strides, and has attract
ed not only attention, but trade, from
every direction.
S. R. Brown de Sons are the live
merchants of the place, and their stock,
embracing almost everything to be
called for, would be a credit to any large
place. And to show how their enter
prise is appreciated, they are receiving
a splendid trade. They have the most
complete ginnery in Middle Georgia,
with a big brick warehouse, and are
handling a lare amount of cotton. Iu
f&ci they have led the cotton market
all around this season.
A number of new residences have
been put up aud iu course of construction
at Luella, also a nice Baptist church is
being built, aud its marked improve
ment attracts general attention.
GREENWOOD
Is otie of the substantial communities
that must by no means be over looked.
Clever Dooly Nelson is proprietor of
’the town, and with a stock ample and
cheaper than ever. It will pay you to call and get my prices before you buy. I will

well selected enjoys a remunerative
trade. A good ginnery also accotnmo
dates the people, and a good lot of
cotton is handled. Some of the best
people anywhere live arouud Green
wood.
ELIPPKN
Now has four stores and is quite an
importaut business point. No better
or more substantial citizens are to be
fouud anywhere, and they are conse
quently prosperous. Here au iudustry
has sptuig up in the fruit business,
which holds out a promising future.
From this point causiderable ship
ments ate made each season, giving em
ployment to a considerable title uutn
her, aud proving profitable to the ship
pers. This is a departure capable of
opeuing up an avenue of benefit to this
entire section, and it is to be hoped
will ere long result favorably to that
end.
STOIKBRIDGE
Is one of Henry county’s “old stand
by's.” Several business establishments
proceed iu the even tenor of their way,
and the average church and school
privileges, with easy access to Atlauta,
make a desireable place to live. It is
composed of some of the most solid and
substantial of citizeus.
COUNTRY STORES
Last, but by no rneaus least, are
Henry county’s couutrv stores. The
scores of drummers who make trips of
regular rouuds to them attest the fact
that they are among the best to be
fouud anywhere, and they supply the
people of every community with many
of the articles of of every day use, upon
favorable terms, besides the conveuieuce
of being near by.
In fine, old Henry county with her
good, solid lands, excellent climate,
healthy location and general conven
iences, is one of the garden spots of
the country.
We Are His.
