;HE HENRY COUNTY WEEKLY
Lewis Mozely.
Many of the oldest citizens of middle
Georgia well remember the venerable
William Mozelv who was regarded for
50 years as one of the most gifted men,
belonging to the primitive Baptist
church. In fact there were but few
meu iu Georgia who were the equal of
old uncle Billy, when taking his sur
roundings aud opportunities into con
sideration. More than three score
yesrs have gone by since Lewis, the
youngest sou of William Mozelv, and
the writer were little playmates and
school boys together. Lewis is my
senior by four mouths only. Mr.
Mozsly is up from Florida, on a visit
among his old friends aud relatives.
It has been more than forty years since
I met with him. Time has made heavy
iuroads on his once youthful counten
auce. He wears the appearance of a
grave sedate quiet old gentleman. He
has been out into Alabama and Mis
sissippi on a visit to some of his child
ren, is now on his return homeward,
back to Florida. Here I shall say
“Good bye Lewis” til l we meet over
on the other shore. W. T. G.

.fudge Beck Endorsed.
Judge Marcus W. Beck, the efli
eient judge of the Flint circuit, has
great reason to feel proud of the en
dorsement given him by the supreme
court of the State, on the Delk cases.
The court granted Taylor Delk a new
trial, hut it declares the trial was a fair
one, aud Judge Beck erred only iu not
postponing the case until one of Delk’s
attorneys could arrive.
In view of what has been said, the
decision is very gratifyiug to the friends
of Judge Beck. He has been very un
justly criticised by some who knew
uothiug of the case aud by those who
had something Jo gaiu by it. The
eudosement of the supreme court is
exceedingly pleased in contrast witli
the criticism, considering the source of
each.
Judge Beck is one of the best judges
in Georgia aud the people of Pike
eouuty appreciate aud endorse him.—

Muscogee Aroused.Jp
The recent atrocious crimes ijjßjolum
bus. whereby several of theiMiravost
officers of the law lost their lUw com
ing, as they do, as the culminaSu of a
very saturnalia of murder, hasffatural
ly aroused the citizens of that thriving
little city to fever beat and tfcy are
preparing to take action. ThSy pro
pose, it is said, to begin a campaign
against the saloons of that citvf which
will not relax until the last one is clos
ed.
When the crimes became known the
people became very much excited.
They were all the absorbing, topic of
conservation throughout the city by all
classes of people, and it was then un
derstood that some of the prominent
and leading temperance people of the
city would at once begiu circulating
petitions asking signatures praying the
legislature to pass a law allowing Mus
cogee county to vote on the local op
tion question.
The ministers aud temperance peo
ple are thoroughly aroused and have
aDuouuced that they are in the fight to
the bitter end, and are fully determined
to make the fight squarely and openly.
A well known temperance advocate
said:
“It will be a bard fight in Muscogee
aud I almost hate to se/ ,?t come, but
we can whip it hands 1 /u if we can
ouly get Sam Jones here for a few days
just before the elect’on.”
Sam Jones has sent a contribution
to the families of the dead policemen
and it is understood that he will go
down and open up the campaign with
characteristic vigor.

of this evil is Simmons Liver Regula

BRYAN’S ELECTION PREDICTED.
The Witch of Salem Sounds McKin
ley’s Doom.
North Tanawands, N. \ , October
-o—At midnight last night Mute.
Miimoth, the witch of Salen, predicted
that William J. Bryan would be the
next president of the United States.
For sixteen years the madam has pre
dieted the result of the presidential
elections several weeks; sometimes
months before polling day. Not once,
according to newspaper clippings, has
she failed to choose the winner. She
predicted Gaifield’s assassination some
time before it occurred. At City
Point, South Boston, July 21, 1894, in
the presence of 12,000 people, she pre
dicted Cleveland’s election, so Mark
Hanua and the rest of the republican
campaigners had as well throw up the
the sponge.
And she speaketh not with a crooked
tougue. Interrogated, the madam pass
ed her hand over her eyes, contracted
her brow and with a mighty mental
effort, proceeded thusly: “Yes, Mr.
Bryan will win, but the election will
be close. Mr McKinley cannot win,
hut even if he did, his time in the pres
idential chair would bo short. He has
not long to live.”
“How about the vice presidency?”
asked the news man.
“.Sewall will win, hut Hobart will be
ahead of Watson. The latter will be
far in the rear,” replied madam.
“Has Bryan any chance of carrying
New York state?”
“His chances of doing so are good.”
“Will McKinley carry Ohio?” was
the next question.
At the answer one republican report
er turned pale and nearly fell from his
chair. Clear and stern came the reply:
“No, sir; he will not.”
“How’s Nebraska goiug”?
“For Bryan sure.”
“Will Sewall carry Maine?”
“He will not,”
“Ilas. Bryan any chance to carry any
of 4?ugland states?”

A look of horrified amazement flitted

“Will any national disaster follow
