Miss Ura Woodruff of Covington c une over to attend the marriage of her cousiu, Miss Mamie Woodruff. The Weekly is indebted to Vera Harper for a limb of big green pepper> with five very large pods on it. Mrs. Eliza Crooksbanks, Mrs. Ar thur Copeland and Miss Ella Daniel spent several days in Atlanta this week shopping. The friends of Mr. Homer who has been seriously sick with ty phoid fever at his father’s .home in Woodbury for the past two or three weeks, regret to know there is no per ceptible improvement in his condition so far. > The Richards bothers gave splendid miustrel performance at the Institute hall Wednesday night, which was en joyed by a large audience. They will remain over touight (Thursday) and if you like minstrels you should not fail to see them. Mr. Jesse Barnett of Ola presented The Weekly a couple of fiue sweet potatoes last one weighing 3 pounds and the other Both were from the same hill, from which Mr. B states he got enough small ones also for a mess for his family. Next. luvitations are out to the marriage of Mr. James Carmichael and Miss Lillie Green, the happy event to take place Nov. 7ch. This popular youug couple have been sweethearts for quite awhile and the marriage is not a sur prise but a looked for event. The Weekly extends congratulations in ad vaDce. Remember The Weekly Job Office, It is announced from Washington that the postoffice department has ex tended rural free mail delivery to Snap ping Shoals, upon the petition of a large number of people, though it is not stated when the service will be gin. Several contiguous minor offices are to be closed. luvitations are out for the marriage of Dr. C. L. Tucker and Miss Lucy Thomas at the residence of the bride’s uncle, Mr. H. C. Bridges, on Wednes day, October 31. The Weekly joins the manv friends in extending congrat ul&tiona to the popular couple in ad vance of the happy event. Stop—l want to buy your cotton seed. Whereas, The sad intelligence has reached us, through the Public Press, of the death of our former School-mate and friend, Mr. Henry G. Patterson while sojourning in the Philippines. Therefore be it Resolved, That words fail to express our deep greif and irre parable loss in the death of our most estimable and noble hearted Christian friend. Resolved 2d, That while he was one of our Dumber, by his mauly, open spirit, his warm-hearted disposition, and faithfulness to every duty, he eudeared himself to both teachers and pupils alike. Resolved 3d, That he but illustrated the qualities of an uuselfish spirit in his death at his post of duty in the army, always bearing himself nobly un der the most trying conditions of a malarial and disease stricken country. Resolved 4th, That, while he sleeps the sleep that knows no waking in his lonely .home beyond the sea, yet the tendrils of our love are reaching out toward him in bis silent slumbers of the last long sleep. The farmers in our community are preparing to sow a large wheat crop, a good plan. Mr. John Duke aud master Arthur went up to Atlanta one day last week. Wonder where Tom Hopkins and Dock Laney went Sunday? Cliutou Terry has accepted a position with the Griffin Cotton Mills. Uncle Marsh Terry has remed his place and is talking of going to the city. Everybody that did not go to the show at Pine Grove last Friday night missed a treat. Wonder what has become of Uncle John . We have not heard from him lately. Hurrah for Berry’s big boll cottOD, everybody giving their horn a blow a bout it. If the farmers of tho old United States will sow as much ground in wheat as they plant in cotiOD, and plant as much iu corn as they do in wheat aud cotton, cotton will be twelve and twelve and a half cents per pound next fall. Jury Returns Verdict of Giiiiliy With It Recommendation Of* Mercy. Quite a large crowd was present last Monday morning when Superior Court reconvened to take up the criminal docket. The number of murder cases were the source of attraction. However the case of T. J. McKibben vs. Andy Kimbell, charging arson, aroused con siderable interest and consumed nearly all day Monday, resulting in acquittal for the defendant. The McCord case, upon which chief interest was centered, and the history of which is already familiar to ihe peo pie of Henry, was then taken up. It was closely and ably contested by both sides, going to the jury after six oclock Tuesday night, and when court con vened Wednesday morning they re burned a verdict of guilty, with recom mendation for me r cv. Judge Reagan then passed sentence for life. Hon. Robert L. Berner, Judge W. A. Brown and Col. E. M. Smith represented tbe defense, and Solicitor Bloodworth and Csf. J. F. Wall the prosecution. An appeal for new trial has been made. The case of one of the three negroes charged with the killing of Gray at Lo cust Grove, was begun yesterday mor ning, aud is in progress as we go to press. The case of Pomie Jones charged with killing Joel Kimpson at Hampton is set for today. A good many miuor cases have been disposed of, aud there are others yet which it is doubtful will be fiuished by Saturday night.
