McDonough, Ga., Nov. 9, 1900.
Georgia bids fair to have another
congressman under the new apportion
ment that will follow the 1900 census.
To say the least of it, that was a
disgraceful orgia on the train to Val
dosta or a Georgia legislature to have
go out on them.
r I he Su Louis Republic says it is
more glorious to haul down a dag in
the name of justice aud liberty than to
let it fl iu the name of injustice and
ty ranuy.
If Hon. J. Pope Brown will keep in
good avor with the farmers through
out the state, without duplicity, he will
be the next governor of Georgia.—

The credit for ten c«nt cotton is
claimed in several quarters.
It belougs to no newspaper, no cor
poration, no statesman, u > individual.
Cotton went to it>« ctiits this year
simply because consumption is catching
up with production.
This resu't was Cius:d by a greater
demand aud a smaller crop.
Undoubt »dly, ihe rife of the cotton
mill industy in the South is a strong
factor iu bringing about the present
status, but planters must take care not
to crowd the market.
Home food supplies, and cotton as fl
surplus cash crop, will be the winning
policy, and the Georgia Cotton Grow
ers’ Association is doing a great work
in firmly planting this idea in the minds
of the people.
We Can easily keep cotton at. ten
conts, and probably higher, by not
producing and rushing to market a
supply greater than the demand.
This is the whole thing iu a nutshell.

Chronic kickers.
Every community is cuised with
kickers, and, uufo-tunately, these pests
are not coufiued (o any particular
country or clime—they abound where
ver man dwells. Spaita, sad to relate,
is no exception to this rule. Iu Spar
ta, there are old kickers, young kickers
—kickers of all kinds. The people
who are used principally as figurative
footballs, by kickers, are newspaper
men, preachers and school teacher*;
and when one of these unhappy mor
tals happen to make a little mistake,
real or fancied, the genus asinus never
lossei an opportunity to bray.
The kicker can’t even play football.
Scientists have discovered that the bile
in his brain has a tendency to take the
kicks out of his physical faculties, and
he is now being universally employed
by the devil, to retard the marches of
Christianity aud civilization. The
kicker is generally a rnau whose life
has been a failure, in some way, and
the supposed shortcomings of humanity
sour on his stomach and he kicks at the
first object that crosses his path. If a
kicker’s child be intellectually bandi
capped in the game of life and is una
ble to keep up with its more fortunate
companions in their studies, he immedi
ately gets on his kick and relegates the
u lhappy school teacher to the “dem
uiriou bowow*-;” it he goes to church
ami hears the preacher make a state
ment that dees not conform to his
views, he has an attack of religious in
digestiou that ma l >es his companions
miserable; if a newspaper mau has the
audacity to differ with him, he works
himsblf into the belief that the sword
is mightier than the peu.
But there is a remedy for nearjy all
diseases. There is even a cute for
kickers. Work is a panacea for many
evils, aud if these misguided misau
thropes would only use their limbs in
stead of their mouths, humanity would
be happier, and they themselves would
be blessed by their efforts.
The Ishmaeliie is not in the epitaph
business, as a geueral thing, hot i.
thinks of the following paraphrase a*
something appropriate to mark the spot
where our friend, ihe Kicker, will lie:
Here lies a Kicker who kicked at good
And even kicked at evil.
But after kicking all he con d
Couldn’t outkick the devil.

A Village Blacksmith Saved His Lit
tle Son’s Life.
Mr. H* 11. Black, the well known
village blacksmith ac Grauamsville,
Sullivan Co., N. Y., says; * Our iittle
son, five years old, has always been
subject to croup, and so bad have been
tue attacks that we have feared many
times that he would die. We have had
the doctor and used many medicines,
but Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is
now our sole reliance. It seems to
dissolve the tough mucous and by giv
ing Irequent doses when the croupy
symptoms appear we have found that
the dreaded croup is cured before it
gets settled.” There is no danger in
giving this remedy for it contains no
opium or other injurious drug aud may
be given as confidently to a babe as to
an adult. For sale by Dr C. L Tuck
