OF VITAL INTEREST TO EVERY CITIZEN OF HENRY COUNT Y AUTOMOBILE BREAKS VANIE BOWDEN'S BACK Was Struck by an Automobile When Alighting from a Street Car Last Monday Night in Atlanta, His back broken when struck by an automobile, in the seventh automobile accident to occur in the two days cf this week, Vanie Bowden, aged 18, of 615 Williams street, was Monday night taken to Gradv hosoital, where physicians stated that he was not expected to live. The automobile by which Mr. Bowden was struck, at the inter section of East Point car line with Tayhors avenue, was driven by W. B. Hubbard, a soldier station ed at Camp -Jessup. No arrest was made by Atlanta police. The seven automobile accidents of Sunday and Monday follow five auto smashes of last week, result ing in a total for nine days of three deaths and injuries to 21 persons. Mr. Bowden was struck, it is stated, when alighting from astreet car, by an automobile driven along the road beside the car tracks. The driver brought hts automobile to a stop immediately and carried the victim to his home, 615 Wil liams street. The injured man was then carried to Grady hospit al by his brother, J, L. Bowden, of the same address. Police state that when the acci dent occurred there was a young woman in the automobile. After the driver had stopped his car however, the young woman, whose name was not learned, dis appeared, according to the of ficers, —The Atlanta Constitution. Mrs. Carl Oglesby Dead Rome, Ga., Oct. 11. —Mrs. Carl Oglesby died at her home here Monday. She is survived by her husband and one son; her par ents, Mrrsand Mrs. B. A. Nolan, and three brothers, Virgil, Ansley and Ernest Nolan. The remains were taken to Newnan.Ga., where the funeral services were conduct ed Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. CARD OF THANKS. M., at the Court House — Every Citizen of Henry Coun ty Is Urged to Attend. A meeting of vital interest to every farmer and business man in Henry county is being arranged for Tuesday, October 18th, at the Masonic Hall. The speaking to begin at 10 a. m. Experts along many lines of ag ricultural pursuits have been se cured for that day to speak and to help to readjust the farming in terest of Henry county to meet the demands of the dav, Mr. M. P. Jarnagin, Professor of Animal Husbandry of the State Agricultural college, will speak on dairying and cattle raising. Mr. J. H. Wood, Professor of Poultry Husbandry of State Agri cultural college will speak on poul try raising, from both the raising of chickens for market and the selling of eggs point of view. Mr. J. P. Campbell, director of Extension work, and Mr. W. S. Brown, district Supervisor of county agents of the state will be here to aid in the meeting and will discuss the various ways that the county can again reach a sound footing in the growing && other crops rather than cotton. Mr. G. W. Humphries, head of the Live Stock Department, and Mr. Rowland Turner, of the Farm Extension work of the Southern Railway, will also address the meeting showing what other coun ties have done under boll weevil conditions. Mr. Chas. Deckner, connected with H. G. Hasting Co., whose reputation is weM known here through being at the head of The Atlanta Journal Home Garden, will speak on vegetable raising for the market. At a meeting at the court house on October 7th of many of the U.D.C. Meeting. The first meeting of the season ; was held September 29th at the J home of Mrs. E. J, Reagan with Mrs. E. L. Reagen joint hostess. The attendance was good, the members coming together again after the summer suspinsion with ! renewed zeal. Several new mein ! bers were received and added ! much to the occasion. Having I more business than usual the afer 1 program omitted, but Mrs. Ben j ton Thompson favored them with j several songs that were very much I enjoved. It was voted to donate * $lO 00 to the school for the pur pose of providing play-ground equipment, for the primary grants. Also, to send a donation of books to the Rabun Gao school library, Co-Educational Mountain schoool. At the close of the evening a dainty salad course was served. fanners and business men, the question of a county agent was discussed, as it was the unanimous opinion of those present that this was the time to engage an expert to aid in the readjustment that is upon us, and the authorities are looking out for such a man. One who can not only help in the plan ning but, who can also assist in the marketing of nur products. Henry countv is the garden spot of Georgia. Our soil is adapted to the growing of everything that any one else can grow successfully and what other counties have done and are doing we can do. It will call for the co-operation of every one. Many of our leading business men and farmers are taking an active interest and a great day is anticipated. Let’s boost the meeting Tues day and make our arrangements to be present and all Co- operate in making our County more pros perous than she has ever been.
