A newspaper dispatch in
Tuesday afternoons issue of the
Atlanta Journal states that the
recent session of the senate and
legislature, cost the state of
Georgia about $120,000.
Mr. J. B. Chaffin of the Sixth
District planted two
acres in watermelons this
3’ear, and sold his entire crop
last week to an Atlanta dealer
for four hundred dollars, which
entitles him to the blue ribbon.

is better tin.:, it has been for
two years pa t, and some are
estimating the rop this year at
six thousand bales. The weath
er for several weeks past has
! een fine indeed on the growing
crops.
Mr. A. C, Oglesby, of McDon
ough, has two of the finest fat
tening hogs in the county. He
purchased two shoats from Mr.
W. I). Knight in the spring, and
they will now tip the beam at
right around 400 lbs each.
The annual reunion of the
Laney family was held at the
home of Mr. Grady Lunsford in
Tussahaw District last Satur
day. This is the old Tom Lan
ey home place and a large
crowd was in attendance. Rev.
D. P. Johnson, of Locust Grove,
delivered an interesting ad
dress at 11 o’clock and a big old
time barbecue and basket din
tier, was served at the noon
hour, and every body present
enjoyed the day.
The annnal reunion of the
Miller family was held at
Davis’s Lake last Friday. This
reunion has been held annually
for a number of years and is
always an enjoyable occasion.
A big spread dinner was served
at the noon hour, and the day
was pleasantly spent in boat
riding, bathing etc. All present
enjoyed the occasion. Davis
Lake is an ideal place for gath
erings of this kind, and is be
coming quite a pleasure resort.
The annual reunion of the
Rodgers family was held at
Bethany Church last Thursday
and was attended by quite a
large number of the relatives of
this family and also by a num
ber of visiting friends. Rev.
J. A. Partridge, of McDonough,
delivered a splendid address in
the forenoon, and a most
sumptuous dinner was served
at the noon hour. Col. R. O.
Jackson was the speaker in the
afternoon and it was a very
pleasant occasion for all who
attended.
The annual session of the
Henry County Singing Con
vention was held at Locust
Grove last Thursday. A good
attendance was present, with
a number.of good leaders on
hand, and it was a success.
Mr. I. P. Rosser who has been
President of the convention for
a number of years was re-elect
ed, and Mr. Joe A. Brown was
elected Vice President and Mr.
A. W. Rape Secretary. The
good people of Locust Grove
and vicinity had made ample
preparation to entertain the
Convention and at the noon
hour, a feast was spread, in
which all present enjoyed to
the fullest extent. The next
annual session will be held at
Phillippi Church.
