Mr. T. C. Swann, one ef the vet¬
eran merchants of Covington, has
been seriously ill at his residence,
but he is reported to be much im¬
proved. It is hoped that he will
soon be seen on the streets again.
Mies Maggie Davis leaves Wed¬
nesday for Atlanta where she goes
as a delegate to the state meeting
of the Home Mission society cf the
North Georgia Confederence which
convenes at the First Methodist
church from the 14th to 19th inst.

QUILTING PARTY.
The members of the Ladies Aid
Society of the Baptist church en¬
joyed an old fashioned quilting
at the Baptist pastorium Thursday
The guilt was presented by Mrs.
J. T. Corley to the committee who
are furnishing the pastorium. A
jolly good time was had and at
noon a sumptuous luncheon spread
each member having
a dish of prapared food making in
all quite au abundance of
things to eat.

THE WOMAN'S CLUB
ADDS NEW MEMBERS.
The Woman’s Club met Tues¬
day afternoon at its regular meet¬
ing at the Lome of Mrs. Chas. A.
Sock well.
i The roll call found twenty pres¬
ent and the corresponding secretary
report showed two new members,
Mr9. Eugene R. Pendleton and
Miss Pearl Belcher. The name of
Mrs. Oti9 Adair was presented for
membership and she was unani¬
mously elected.
The next meeting will be with
Mrs. W. E Darden and *the pro¬
gram will be in charge of Mrs. J.
E. Phillips and Mrs. Jas. F.
Rogers.
The study subjects tor Tuesdays
meeting were Augustus Baldwin
Longstreet, who was once a presi¬
dent of Emory college and Lydia
Huntley Sigourney.
After the conclusion of the pro¬
gram, Mrs. Sock well served most
delicious cream ane wafers.
In compliment to Mrs. Tno. Up¬
shaw, Mrs. Sock well's guest, there
were several visitors present be¬
sides the club members.

who were invited to meet the
charming visitor.
The library, parlor and dining
room were very pretty with decor¬
ations ot yellow jonquils prettily
arranged. In the hall punch was
served by Mrs. Mrs. G. T. W ells
from a beautifully decorated bowl
of Ferns and Easter lillies which
added much to the pretty scene.
The afternoon was marked by an
unusual social charm and pleasure.

Mrs. Wood Aiken was hostess
Sunday at an elegant dining in
honor of her father, Mr. Hugh
White, whose ninetieth birthday
it was.
The dining room where the elab¬
orate five course luncheon was
served, was in yellow and blue,
yellow shades softening the candle
light and yellow jonquils and blue
violets adding beauty.
Covers were laid for twelve. The
table had for its centerpiece ninety
yellew candles around which were
violets and their foliage prettily

The occasion was most onjoyable
