Miss Marie Evans at Cordele.
Miss Marie Evans, of Oxford,
has gone to Cordele to conduct the
singing in a series of important re
ligons services being held there.
Rev. C. A. Jackson, pastor of
the Methodist church at that place
was instrumental in securing the
services of Miss Evans, he hav¬
ing heard her sing in the First
Congressional church, Atlanta,
where she had charge of the music
during the recent revival.
We congratulate the good people
of Cordele iu being so fortunate as
to secure the services of so coinpe
tant and accomslished a musician
as Miss Evans.
Negro House Burns.
On Monday at noon a negro
house belonging to Jennette Miller
was burned to theground. Carrie
Anderson lived in the house but
no one was at home when the fire
was discovered, all being at work
in a nearby field.
Nearly everything was saved—
only a small amount of household
furniture remaining in the house
to burn.

ONE GENTLEMAN
COMES TO HEAD IT
Let The People of Covington Get
Together and Reorganize
Board of Teade.
Some tew weeks ago we called
attention to the need of a Board of
Trade in Covington; not a liteless
collection of men styled a Board of
Ttade, but a real live organization
an organization that will work for
Covington. Several persons said
to the editor that “that was a
good and timely article.” Since a
few days after the item appeared
no one has said anything at all.
Nothing has been done.
In nearly every respect our town
is all right, but we need a few live
citizens that will work systematic¬
ally for our town, we want to bring
trade to the this place. It does a
town no good to sit around on a
corner and brag about what a gof'd
city we live in. Lets tell other
folks about our place, let’s induce
others to come and live among us.
One young man said if we would
keep talking about thi Board that
he would aid us in organizing one,
or reorganizing the old one. We
d > n<>t know the officers of the old
affair, they keep quiet. Anyway
so far as we are concerned we are
going to keep blowing our little
horn in the hope that we will get
a few of our citizens interested.
It makes us feel a little shame¬
ful when we read about the other
towns near us having real live or¬
ganization pulling might and main
for their town, when we are doing
nothing at all in this line.
Lei’s do better. Who will lead?
Frank Ballard has given you
his platform. For what does the
other two stand.
Rev. L. I. Echols Resigns.
Rev. L. I. Echols has resigned
the pastorate of Hopewell church
and will move to South Carolina.
Mr. Echols will serve Hopewell
until June 1st, at which time he
will remove with his family to liis
future home. He will serve Fair
view during the remainder of his
stay.
The people among whom he has
lived regret very much to give him
up as he has been a faithful pastor.
He leave with the best wishes of
his people.
Watch the show windows at C.
E. Cook’s, he shows the best
syles in Covington. You cin
always dipend on getting the Int* st
j. styles from him in everything to
wear for mfen, women, boys, girls
and children.
Mrs. Davis Elected Secretary.
Mrs. Jro. IL Davis has returned
from Athens where she attended
the Woman’s Foreign Mi&simian
Society of the North Georgia Con¬
ference. On her return Monday
she stopped at Madison and spent
until Tuesday evening with Mrs.
Celeste Speer and Mrs. Joe L.
Billups.
At the meeting in Athens last
week Mrs. Davis was elected Sec¬
retary of Oxford district.
