iTbe fact that the men who have

life have recoganized
kt advertising is essential to the
pper transaction of their busi¬
es affairs should serve as an ex
Iple to the hundreds of mer
hnts who persist in doubting the
pucy of this wonderful agent in
(median with their own business.
Widespread as advertising b J - \
pne within the last ten years of
buderful progress, there are many
preliants hmeelves who cannot conveuce
that it is a factor that
fist be reckoned with as an ac¬
id necessity of modern business,
>■ same as rent, clerkship and
bees. A retrospective glance
jovea indisputably that the uier
ants who have succeeded have
variably believed in the value of
hvspaper advertising and made
e of it.
1 hat advertising is on the in¬
case every day is not denied.
P“re is a cause for this, let us

thing under the sun that cannot
F sold through a newspaper; and
lught too. as for that matter,
j Hit advertising that carries the
ost force is without doubt the ad
ri 'ied in the county newspaper,
perybody reads everything in the
(u »ty paper. Everybody in the
jiLnty Pd is interested in what each
every merchant has in stock,
pey know the merchants person
ly; they read what he has to say
| the public with as much inter
r [at as they would a news article
came from away off. Some
our country merchants could
Ttainly profit by trying an ad in
leir county paper. When we say
(untry merchants, we mean no
prespect, iference is rather an honor. Our

The Enterprise. It matters not
whether you sell on a credit or for
cash ; stable goods or fancy ; a pa¬
per of pins, a piano or thresh; it
will sell a phonograph, a thing
that, can sing its own praises.
There is but one way to convince
yourself, try it. Once at it you
could not be induced to try the old
method of watching for a customer
to come in your stove uninvited,
you invite them through an ad in
The Enterprise. People generally
go where they are wanted any stay
from the places that they are not
wanted.

Mr. R. M. Rakestraw.
Mr. Robert AT. Rakestraw died
at the home of Lis son-in-law, Mr.
F. 1). Biglers, in Newton county
April 29, 190G, sifter an illness of
about four rhotiths. He wa9 born j
in Lexington, Oglethorpe county,
Ga. » a . 11, 1819, being a little
over j r— years of age. He was
married Dec. 17, 1839, to Louisa
A. Terrell, with whom he lived
happily until her death which oc¬
curred Jan. 28, 1889.
To them were born thirteen
children, four sons and nine
daughters, four of whom still sur¬
vive and werr present at his bod
side and ministered all that loving
hearts and willing hands could for
a devoted father. They are Mrs.
Jas. Cook, of Jersey, Mrs. J. M
Belcher, of Covington, Mr. R. A.
Rakestraw, of Atlanta, and Miss
Molbe Rakestraw who has ever j
remained with h.m and was uutir- I
ing in her efforts to make his last
years as pleasant as could a de¬
voted daughter.
Mr. Rakestraw had lived in j
New ton county since he was about j
five years old and was universally j
beloved by all who intimately
knew him, as was attested by their
presence at his funeral, which was
conducted bv liis pastor, using the
appropriate text. “Thou shalt come
to thy grave as a shock of corn
cotneth in its season.”
fhe writer was with him a few
times in his last days and was pe¬
culiarly impressed with his forti
tude and resignation. Although
lingering and clinging to
life so long extended he never
complained of pain or suffering at
all. The mysterious thing we call
life, was withdrawn from him in
I such degrees that it \va9 attended
with no morfe pain than mi ght ue
felt by the oaks of the forest as
their leaves wither in the heat of
the sun.
For the sorrowing children and
grandchildren we would pray that
their lives could be us his was, and
in the end, find that peace which
was so abundantly manifested in
his last days. A FRIEND.
