CONSOLIDATED 1902.
PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY.
By ENTERPRISE PUB. CO.
SUBSCRIPTION $1 PER YEAR
Entered at the Postoffice at Covington,
Ga., as Second-Class Mail Matter.
Covington, Ga., Aug, 24, 1906.
ANNOUNCEMENT.
Impelled by the purest motive,
and inspired by that high purpose
expressed in the lines of the poet:
For the cause that needs assistance,
For the wrong that needs resistance,
For the future in the distance,
All the good that 1 can do.
I assume full charge ol tne En¬
terprise, but not without a deep
sense of the responsibility attached
thereto.
In this county of ours, with a
reader in almost every home; the
rural routes to deliver mail
promptly; the conclusions of men
are read from the newspapers, dis¬
cussed and relied upon with confi¬
dence and faith. The public press
when properly conducted is a pow¬
erful agency for public good.
The contents of tomorrow’s news¬
papers may arouse the fierce hatred
of men or create the loving sym¬
pathy of the world.
The responsible editor, knowing
this, will carefully weigh the effect
of his language before sending it
forth on its mission.
Ideas which find birth in his
brain should be loyal to the com¬
munity and its interests; to the
home and its maintenance; to the
government and its progress; to
the town and its people.
The interests of the weekly
newspaper and the interests of the
town and county in which it is
published are so closely related
that the interests of the one is the
interest of the other. Where there
is a live, up to date newspaper,
there is a live, hustling town.|
It is my purpose to give my en¬
tire time and devote my ability to
the columus of the Enterprise, and
to give you a clean, reliable, bright
conservative newspaper. My most
appreciative compensation will be
the approval of my readers, and
the patronage, and the good will
of the people of Covington and
Newton county.

Politics cooling.
Hot weather yet.
Peaches almost gone.
School soon opens again.
Only one cool man—ice man.
Watermelons will soon be gone.
Now get you ready aud pay for
your paper.
Everybodv knows more than
anybody.
We are at a loss for a subject—
politics over.
Covington continues to grow—
just watch her.
Cheatham certainly ought to
get out and stay out.
Conntry homes going up right
along—&at,s a good sign.
Cotton is opening; sell just one
bale and pay the editor.
Some peeple are so stingy that
they would not pay a compliment.

SOUTH GEORGIA LAND & INDUSTRIAL CO.

and its future ; the best answer we can giAe is actual
experience—a few years ago we bought 149 feet f ron *

Newton’s election was very quiet
showing the good sense of our
people.
The Atlanta News’ stand against
the lease of the State road was
bold aud timely.
Now some folks will have to
vote for a man that they have said
awful mean things about.
Our business men should wake
up to the importance of the smaller
manufacturing enterprises.
The Madisonian informs us that
the legislature pul through a cigar¬
ette bill. What’s that brother?
Covington must have a few more
houses to rent. We must house
those who want to live among us.
Whenever you hear the < i best
county paper in Georgia” spoken
of, you may know that the Enter¬
prise is referred to.
Now is the time to begin your
advertising in the Enterprise. It
goes into almost every home in
Newton county. To succeed you
must advertise.
There are no soreheads in New¬
ton ; all accept the result of the
primary in good faith aud want
Newton’s vote to go that way in
the convention.
Many people are honest but vote
wrong. Study—enlighten vour
self. I he votes of honest dupes
cause a great deal of government
rottenness.
We are doing our level best to
to make The Enterprise a newsy pa
per, Don’t Criticise us if we do
not get all the news; we cannot be
everywhere AEL the time. It is
your duty to help us some. When
you know of a news item tell us,
call t»s over the phone; stop us
on the street; write us, anyway to
get us, but get us.

SOUTH GEORGIA LAND & INDUSTRIAL CO.
Gentlemen:—You ask for an impartial opinion
of your town, its opportunities and prospects. Must say
I am agreeably surprised at the situation and from what
we see of the property as wc survey it, it is ail desirable
building property. High, dry and healthy and from
what we hve learned since coming here of the rapid de¬
velopment pf the country we don’t believe you could
find a better investment than this proeprty.
Yours truly,
