BOTH HOUSESADJOURN. {
On last Thursday morning the
Georgia house and senate adjourn
ed sine die.
'Both houses worked hard and
overtime—the house clock being
turned back.
l he presiding officer of both
l*ouses were given loving cups—
pleasant speeches of presentation
were on tap.
During the two years in which
the members of the present house
have served together many warm
friendships have been formed, and
it is but natural that there was an
undercurrent of sadness during the
last hours of its session.
The first measure of general im¬
portance to p iss was the Co mer
bill appropriating $ 100,000 00 for
the erection of an agricultural
building on the University campus.
Another important measure is a
child labor bill. It took hard work
to pass this bill, but the aggressive¬
ness of its supporters at the very
beginning of riie session overcome
all opposition.
In the minds cf many, the most
important bill passed, is the bill
creating the Court of Appeals.
This court will relieve the conges¬
ted condition of the Supreme court.
On and after January 1, 1907,
Bucket Shops will be out of busi¬
ness. The real difference between
“wire” houses and bucket shops,
we have fail to see
These to our mind are the most
important measures passed.
A large part of the time of the
house is consumed in passing bills
of little importance and benefit to
the people, but merely a bill
passed. » > Were this not the case
much more time could be given
to general measures. It is unfor
tnnate that we must consume the
time of the legislature and senate
with these unimportant affairs.
On a whole the legislature did
good work and there was no evi¬
dence of the third house, so often
spoken of.
