we would have in n few years. If
the other papers in tiis section
will join The Advertiser we will
begin a crusade of dweloptnent
that will bring good s-ttlers here
in droves. All that is needed is
to advertise it to the world— let
the people know whit a great
country we have rigb through
this section; what entrgetic and
thoroughly up-to-date imners we
have here, whose foct^teps, if
followed into by others, 4411 make
them prosperous and haqjiy.

What has been said -elative to
Newton has not been said in a
boastful way. Newton county
does not need any “boae|ii)g”|j|
all we have to do for Newton, to
show her superiority, ig to men¬
tion facts. We heartily agree
with our brother of The Adver¬
tiser, that middle Georgia is the
garden spot of the souths While
middle Georgia is the garden spot
of the south, Newton county is
the garden spot of that garden
spot.—[E d. Enterprise]
Crescent Comedy Co.
The Crescent Comedy Co. open¬
ed a weeks engagement at the
Opera House Monday to a large
audieuce which expressed its ap¬
preciation by frequent and pro¬
longed rounds of applause which
was well earned by the peopla.who
were in the cast. The play “In
Old Virginia was a Southern
drama with the scenes laid in
Virginia and every part was in the
hands of an artist and it is seldom
that a company of this kind plays
in towns ot this size. The
management is to be
on securing an TtTTCtcU•-of'
kind. Another pleasing
of the entertainment was the
ialties between acts. In fact
company is all that could bt
eired.

Negro Stole Bale of Cotton. ;
On Monday night Jim Usher, a ;
Rockdale negro went to Baker 8c
of Maddox cotton gin belonging house and took a bale j j
to Mr. Henry
Parker and brought it to Coving¬
ton .soon Tuesday morning and
sold it to Mr. N. S. Turner. Soon
after a telephone message was ro
ceived from Mr. Maddox tailing
the buyers here to be on the Jlook
out for a hale of cotton, according¬
ly Usher was arrested and placed
in jail.
The negro had a most ingenius
devise arranged for slipping along
with his wagon. He had the hubs
well padded with leather, the
coupling tounge wedged so it could
not rattle and the hind gate secure
ly and firmly fastened so as to
make uo noise.
This make* the third bale of
cotton stolen from Baker & Mad¬
dox gin this reason and it is gen¬
erally believed that Usher stole
all three bales.
