A Fishing Expedition.
le following is an account of
ping expedition that actually
fed in North Georgia, several near
feityof Blank, years
laud is now barred by the Stat
jf Limitations.
ie of the parties is a genial
S hardware drummer from
luta, who we will call “Mart”.
ft what older than Mart, of
ler a sober and serious turn of
ft—an all round good kind of a
ftv, ftd—noted but not very religously en
however, as a great
ftman and is usually very suc
ftul in this line. He has one
■lightly ■culiar injured that gives him
walk (a kind of hop and
fttchet gait) that is very notice
I. He, as we remember was in
■employment of a merchautiie
n in the city and we will call
■ Joe. No great distance from
■ place is. a small stream, about
■ hundred feet wide and in some
■es very deep. Mart had sev
■ times fished with hook and
■ in this stream and each time
led to catch any fish; and yet,
lielieved there wore fish there;
I they would not notice his bait,
■he conceived the plan of using
■auiite on them and getting
Im in this way. But in order to
Iry out his plans successfully, it
■ necessary to have some one
lug to help him, and knowing
II Joe’s weakness for this kind
Isport, he decided to see Joe and
I his plans before him and if
Isible get him to go wfth kim.
I it was a violation of the law to
■1 fisli in this way—of course it
is wry necessary to keep the
itter a profound secret. After
luting joe up, Mart says: “Now
[ Icks e ! my plan is this, I will get two
*of dynamite and have a
I'se and buggy at your back gate
[fiy [the in the morning, so as to get

M then we will pull down below,
pt huites of all danger, aud in a few

I this and more he explained
r I e > which he saw made rather
[favorable impression upon him.
then turned to Joe and said:
;
Now what do you say, come and
1° with me.”
j hsh, ell Mart as you know I love
r but I tell you I dou’t know
| t’i'll JJU t this dynamite tl business, afraid and
you lc tiuth I am
fhaid of the blamed stuff,
might get blowed up our-selves,
and I don’t much want to have
anything to do with it. What
does it look like anyhow? The
fact of the busines is Mart 1 am
afraid of it any way.”
4 4 But hold on Joe, says Mart, I
tell you there is no danger in it.
I sell it every day and know all
about it—I know bow to handle it,
and it is just as I tell you there is
not a particle of danger where you
understand it and know how to
us e it. So Joe, yon be ready early
in the moriug and go with me ”
“Well, Mart, says Joe, I don’t
take to th*is kind of fishing much,
but from what yon say about it,
I’ll take my chances and go.”
About daybreak the next morn
mg. Mart with horse and buggy,
and two sticks of dynamite, was
at Joe’s back gate, and soon after
he arrived Joe came out and an¬
nounced that he was ready, but as
Joe was about to get in the buggy,
he noticed the two sticks of dyna¬
mite lying in the foot of the bug*
gy. he took a step or two back
words, and said: “Look here
Mart, I be blamd if I like to ride
in that buggy with two sticks of
dynamite rollinj and shaking
about aud me siting right over it,
the stuff might g. off aud cripple
von and kill ms, md I wouldn't

But Mart again assuied him

boat, and pulled out near the mid¬
dle of the stream. Joe was in the
upper and of the boat and Mart
was in the lower. They put a
match to the fuse and Mart told
Joe to hold it until it began to
siz and then throw it out in the
stream above. But just as Mart
waB in the act of throwing his
stick, his feet slipped from under
him and he fell flat of his back in
the bottom of the boat and the
burning stick of dynamite dropped
in the water a few inches from the
boat. Mart called to Joe in a loud
and excited voice, saying: “paddle
Joe, for God sake paddle away
from here.” Joe already excited,
now became more so. Joe was
standing in his end of the boat
with his stick of dynamite in his
hand waiting for it, to siz, and
looking around to see what was
the matter with Mart. He then
turned and threw it as hard as he
could and where it went he did
not look to see, but he threw it
out on the bank on their side of
the stream. About this time Joe
had recovered from his effort at
throwing and the boat had floated
over the spot where Mart’s stick
had fallen ; just then the dynamite
exploded aud the boat was thrown
t,vo or three feet out of the water
aud Mart and Joe were both thrown
head foremost in water ten or
twelve feet deep. The bottom be¬
