CHORAL SOCIETY
AT MECEDONIA.
Newton County Choral Society
Had a Successful Day at
Macedonia Sunday.
On last Saturday afternoon, the
editor in company with Prof. J.
O. Martin, pressed a hay-burner
into service, and with that as a
motor power, proceeded to Prof.
Martin’s domicile near Flint Hill.
FLnt Hill is about seven miles
from Covington. The road from
Covington to that section is one
of the best in the South. The
country thickly populated with
small but thrifty and industrious
farmers. Evidences of prosperity
happiness and contentment, could
be seen on all sides. The land is
level, and in a high state of cu!ti
vation.
The citizens of Flint Hill are all
cultured, refined and hospitable.
We have *-ever been more highly
entertained, and at the same time
felt more at home, than we were
while with the good people of
Flint Hill. The latch string
is on the outside, and if a visitor
don’t feel welcome, something is
wrong with him; he needs to be
sent to a home for the grouchy
cure.
On Saturday night we had mu
sirf at Mr. R E. Lee’s home All
kinds of musical instruments were
on hand There is much musical
talen in that community. Dif¬
ferent pretormers played on the
instruments, which broke the mo¬
notony, usually attendant upon
such occasions, and made the en¬
tire program one of much pleasure
andprnht.
On Sunday morning the Newton
Comity Choral Society held its
last quarterly m?eting at Mace
dm.ia. It was our first visit lo

ing but praise for this orgamza
tion, The best of order and at¬
tention prevailed during the en
tire singing. These convention
are doing lor Newton, what n
other orgonization can do, viz: de¬
veloping a taste and talent for
music among the young people
Some of the singers and preform
era at these gatherings would do
credit and honor to any section of
the world. Everybody seemed to
be fall of the spirit of the occas-
8ion, and entered heartly into the
singing. Even the Editor, who
is known by his inability to make
a single harmonious sound, could
not refrain from joining in the
songs.
The songs we enjoyed most were
rendered from the old “Sacred
Harp. ) J
The officers for the next year
were elected as follows: President
Dr. S. W. Everett; Vice President
J. S Piper; Secretary, Mac Poole.
The next quarterly meeting
will be held at AJmon.
Everybody invited.
