Newton County Chert.
What promises to be one of the
most profitable industries in New
ton county, is the discovery of a
long and deep strata ot chert, of
the highest qualify, on Hon. J. Z
-Johnson's place near Oxford. The
supply is unlimited and the su¬
perior quality is attested by tbe
fact that the city of Atlanta has
been using it by the car load, in
preference to the grade she has
been receiving from Bessemer City,
Ala.
. This industry will revolutionize
rlojl building in this county. It
iK easier to handle than rocks,
makes prettier and belter roads,
and at much smaller cost. We
trust arrangements can be made
with Mr. Johnson to put chert
from his farm on our roads.
