Father Attempts to
Assault Daughter.
One of the most outrageous
crimes ever perpetrated in this
section is said to have been com
mitted near Commerce Sunday
morning. The details as given by
the offeuded daughter who went
to Commerce Monday and swore
out a warrant for her father, Will
Hill, are as follows:
Miss Cora, the fifteen-year-old
daughter of Will Hill, was in the
room dressing, preparing to go to
church. Her father, who is said
to have been under the influence of
liquor, went into the room and
made improper proposals to her,
which she resented, He then
sought to gratify his brutish ap¬
petite by means of force and a
desperate struggle ensued, Al
though the daughter was only 15
years old, she is said to be unusu
ally robust and strong, and she
resisted the efforts of her father
with all hie might. During the
struggle he knocked her down
twice and tore most of her cloth¬
ing from her person. Her screams
attracted the attention of her
mother, who came to her rescue
and, assisted by other members of
the family, secured her release
from the father. As soon as the
girl was released she fled through
th« field to tfie home ot a nearby
neighbor, and as she ran,/ Hill
pulled his revolver and shot at
his daughter. She says the ball
barely missed her head, and that
she heard the whistle of the bullet
as it passed her. When she reach
ed the horae of tl,e nei S hbor ir ,' 8
sf>id she waa !llraost nude - Sllb
was only partly dressed when the
father made the attack, a:.d part
of her garments had been torn off
by the father in the struggle.
When she went to town to swear
out a warrant, there were great
bruises on both sides of her head
and on other portions of her per¬
son, which were treated by physi
cians. Hill will be arrested and
tried.—Walton Tribune, last week.

The Dollar.
There is no sentiment ab< ut a
dollar.
It rests as peacefully in the filth}'
pockets of the beggar—
As it does in the silken purse of
the millionaire.
It’s a blanket that covers a mul¬
titude of sins. t
It brings joy today—it’s the
cuuse of sorrow tomorrow.
It never speaks—yet it talks.
It circulates freely—yet it keeps
in hiding.
It’s the ruination of millions.
It lifts millions out of the depths
of despair.
It comes with promise of glad¬
ness.
It leaves many disappointments.
We tremble at its strength.
Yet we can crush it with one
hand.
It’s always the same—yet it’s
ever changing.
The lack of it promotes industry.
The excess of it causes idleness.
It creates trouble—it brings
peace.
It mak°s one restful—it makes
one restless.
It lubricates the axle the world
revolves upon.
Without it we perish,
For the world lets him
Severely alone
Who has not a dollar
He can call his own.
