Mrs. Carroll’s Race

W. Carroll is making in the At¬
lanta Constitution Voting Contest
is very gratifying to her numerous
friends.

About thirty members of Jeffer¬
son Lamar Camp, U. C V., are in
Richmond, Va,, this week in at¬
tendance * upon the Confederate
veterans reunion, and we hope all

Thursday evening, A class of
eleven were graduated. towit:

Dearing, Ethyl Higgins, Estelle
Jordan, Walter Ruth Lewis. Julia
Claud Thompson, Christine White,
and Messrs William Thomas
Adatns and Paul Krskine Davis.
The exercises began Sunday •
11 a. m., when Rev. W. E. Dozier,
pastor of tlie Carrollton Presbyte
nan church, delivered the
mencement sermon, and his dis-:
course was listened to with much
interest. The music was excep
tionally good, and the solo "Plains
of Peace,” by Miss Bessie Ezell,
deserves especial mention.
Monday evening at 8 o’clock, at
the Music Hall, a most excellent
program was carried out., the oc-'
casion being a piano recital by Miss
EzHl’s music class, assisted by
Miss Watts’ pupils in elocution.
Out of respect to the memory of
our late mayor, Hon. L. A. Clarke,
the exercises which were to have
been held* on Tuesday evening
(primary, intermediate and gram
mar grades , \ ) ... were postponed . . until
t,. Thursday , evening.

Emory college is near and dear to
the hearts of all Covingtonites and
foundation of style itself, and
you cannot get away from the

Sam W. Small, of Atlanta, v/ho
delivered the annual address. And
to say that the distinguished ora
tor, statesman, evangelist and lec¬
turer was intently listened to, is
mildly expressing it. Education
was his theme, and for fifty min¬
utes the audience was swayed by
his logic, masterful eloquence and
sublime oratory. The address was
truly a gem of purest ray serene

E. H. Jordan, of the city school
board, in the happy and pleasing
style which always characterizes a
talk by Ed Jordan.
