As is well known Elder Eubanks is
a forceful preacher and a fine pul¬
pit orator. He will preach at the

month: Harris Spring Saturday
and Sunday, the 16 and 17; Mon¬
day evening, the 18, ? p. m at,
Covington Presbyterian church;
Tuesday, the 19, at Holly Spring;
Wednesday evening. the 20, at 7 p.
m. at Covington Presbyterian
church. Everybody invited.

Friday accepted an invitation to
visit Stewart school, in Brewers
district. After an invitation to
an oyster supper with Mr Ballard,
we left Covington about 5 o’clock
and had a long ride over the cotiu
try in a double turn-out, as it is
nearly 14 miles from the city, and
reached the school house a little
late to attend the meeting of the
farmers which had just adjourned,
but soon after our arrival a repre
seutative body of about 50 of the
district’s prominent citizens again
assempled in the building aud we
received a cordial welcome.
Hon. F. D Ballard was made
chairman or the meeting, .where¬
upon Prof. Foster was introduced
and made a very forceful talk aud
explained the presents good condi¬
tions of the schools in the several
districts of the county. He went
into details concerning the present
consolidation system of tbe coun¬
ty schools and their avantuges, and
stressed the necessity ot co-opera¬
tion with the Commissioner to
make a success of a school in any
district. Prof Foster is a
and interesting talker and has
whole heart in the work of
education for Newton county.

was next introduced and his
dress was closely listened to.

Robert Stilwell Dead.
Robert Lee Stilwell, 10 years of
age, died at the home of Mr. R. E
Lveritt in this city Tuesday night.
He had been sick for over two
months Robert was a bright bov
and bad a large number of friends
m this city. He was a brother of
Mrs R. E. Everitt, Miss Julia
Stilwell and Mr W. R. Stilwell of
this city.
The remains were laid to rest in
the cemetery here on Wednesday
! afternoon.
Our sincere sympathy goes out
to the bereaved ones.
Jim Lawson.
Jinr Lawson, the janitor of the
Covington Public schools, died
Wednesday night. Jim bad been
the faithful employee of the Pub¬
lic school here for more than twen¬
ty years, and wits liked and re¬
spected by all who he came m
contact with.
Prof Sessions and his assistants
arranged <or the children to attend
the furneral in a body and they
marched to the cemeterv from the
college Thursday afternoon.
Jim was about 45 years of age
