had been mapping out pranks for
many weeks, was tip bright and
early. Many fat pocketbooks, and
hats with bricks under them, were
found lying on the sidewalk and

the occasion enough to stop

Negro Justified.
A special from Atlanta says, An
interesting decision was handed
down by the state court of appeals
in a case from Floyd I
county
Several months ago two Rome 1
policemen went into a house to j
arrest a negro. They had no
warrant, and the negro resisted.
He opened fire on tin officers and
accidently shot an innocent by¬
stander. A mob gathered and
opened fire on the negro, who
took refuge in another house.
One of the bullets killed him.
Coroner J. W. Miller held an in¬
quest, but the county authorities
refused to pay him for it, saying

brought suit, and won. Tho
verdict is sustained by the higher
court, in the decision of winch
some interesting comment, is made
on the incidents leading up to the
negro’s death. Among other
things, they say that the negro
acted within bis legal rights when
he resisted an unauthonzed arrest.
