NEW SCHOOL
Prof. David A. Nicholson, of
neca, S. C., Unanimously
Elected Superintendent
Covington Schools.
At a meeting of the Board
Education held last Tuesday, Prof.
David A Nicholson, of SeDeca. S.
C , was unanimously elected Su¬
perintendent of the Covington
Public Schools for the next term,
and he has signified his acceptance
of the position. The members
the school board feel that they
have been singularly fortunate in
securing the services of Prof. Nich¬
olson. %
Prof. Nicholson has been
ing for seventeen years and
b«*en unusually successful.
quite a number of years lie
been at the head of large public
school systems in South Carolina
and brings the very highest of tes
titronials as to his success.
Prof. Nicholson is a graduate of
one of the best Southern Univer¬
sities and stands high in the edu¬
cational councils of his State. He
ie an enthusiast in educational
work and will no doubt impurten
thusiasm to the pupils and teach
ers who will be placed in Irs charge
The Board ha6 re-eletted the en
tire lorce of lady teachers who did
*:;;z
tent ion ot the board at an early
date to elect two additional teach¬
ers to begin their work at the ope¬
ning of the next term.
Notwithstanding the fact that
the people of the town have twice
voted $5,000 for a school annex to
the present building, the money for
j thus purpose, so badly needed,
j not yet available and the
j desired addition is not yet in 6ight.
Board teels that the
of the school cannot longer
for this annex, and so internl
convert the school auditorium
porarily into school rooms for
additional teachers, so that
school interests may not longer
hampered by lack of
teaching force.
Evidently the members of
Cchool Board have determined
the Covington schools must
brought up to a still higher
of efficiency, and in this they
the hearty support of all our
lzens.

To thos 1 * interested in the musi¬

the recital given by the class of
Miss Bessie Ezell on last Friday
evening was most enjoyable, but
the undivided attention given by
the entire audience, which
the seating capacity of the Audi
torium to its utmost, attended the
real merit of the numbers as pre
sented.
The program was divided into
two parts, the lir^t l>*-ing executed
by the younger mem I •ers f her

more advanced pupils.
We have rarely listened to
performers on the piano who show
ed such excellent training both as
to system and expression as did
the majority of tUse children, and
we feel that Miss Ezell has attain¬
ed tar more than ordinary success
along th^S'i lines.
That the advanced pupils too all
did well, exceedingly well, w-s the
consensus of opinion freely hX -
pressed on every hand. And h-re
again we would mention that
