THE ENTERPRISE, COVINQTON, <!A
Water and Sewerage System,
Elsewhere in the Enterprise we
are publishing a “Notice ot
tion for the issuing of bonds to
amount of 500,000 for the
ut PuDLjg in a water and sewerage
9ystem f°r Covington.
Just before the death ot our Ia
mented l ' Ia y° r L. A. Clark water
works grew to be a topic of much
discussion, and the Mayor and
Council visited cities having a
successful water and sewerage sys
tem. Alter much discussion pro
and con with the authorities of the
towns visited, these gentlemen re
fumed to Covington with the de¬
firmined idea that Covington need
ed a water and sew r erage system.
Two elections have been held
for the erection of water and sew
eragb f ° l olfr city and each time
bonds have been voted for this
purpose, but owing to some techni¬
cal legal point involved the bonds
have been termed “illegal,” but
with the amount of experience in
holding past elections for bonds,
we believe the city fathers have at
last arranged the election so as it
will be legal.
The date for the election is set
t/r September 10th and it is the
duty of every citizeu to lend a
helping hand to this step" toward
progress and every movement In¬
tended to promote the interests of
the city ; to assist with hi3 voice
and his money the plats that are
laid for its material developement.
Never before hss there been such
an opportunity offered to our citi¬
zens for the building up and plac¬
ing Covington , in the foremost
ranks of Georgia’s leading cities,
as is presented in the securing of a
complete water and sewerage sys¬
tem.
We have a great city, endowed
with natural advantages greater
than are possessed by any other
city in the state. We have a solid
city which has weathered all tfie
storms of the past, and whose very
name inspires confidence, We
have a proressive citizenry, men
who in their various lines of ac¬
tivity compare favorably with the
men of any other city, but we are
deficient. Waterworks are a nec¬
essity. They build up a town.
Collectively it would prove a most
valuable asset to our city in spread¬
ing her fame and advancing it in
good opinion of outsiders.
So let every citizen tulk water¬
works from now until the date of
the election, and when the time
comes to vote exert himself in
carrying out its full platform.

raer’s juvenile entertainments was
that on Monday afternoon Aug.

ing with them many beautiful

thdough knowledge of child na¬

selections, and Miss Milner assist¬
ed in entertaining the little ones
while the gentle faced hostess was
here, there and everywhere looking
after the pleasures af all. Deli¬
cious refreshments were lavishly
served, ere leaving each guest was
given a souvenir in the shape of a

The Great Commoner
It 13 with regret that we see even
a slight tendency on the part of
some to discount the candidacy ot
'A m. J. Bryan, ot Nebraska, demo¬
cratic nominee for the presidency
of the United States.
In every essential consideration,
Mr. Bryan easily leads his oppon¬
ents.
He has the be3t platform yet.
enunciated by any part, It can
not and will not be assailed suc
cessfully.
He is a democrat.
He is thebrainest man.
He is the purest man.
Ho has the strongest personality
He is the only man in public
history who has suffered defeat
twice, and yet, after each disaster,
arisen stronger than before! His
nomination was a result of the un¬
mistakable verdiet of the masses.
He is the real choice of the party.
The efforts of Mr. Watson to
prejudice the voters of Georgia
against Bryan ly abusing his per¬
sonal character, ore relics of the
dark ages of politics. The pspulit
candidate insults the intelligence
of the people ot Georgia and stulti¬
fies himself by assailing the most
impreguable point ot the Nebrask¬
an. Can’t we eliminate billings¬
gate from a presdentia! election?
Harmless are the shafts of envy
and bitterness when directed
against the clearest and purest
and ablest man who has appeared
in national politics for fifty years.

that “tall chiff” of Goldsmith’s
which,“Though round its breast
the rolling clouds be spread.
