'"SS th h Sunday r - 1 "
Covington did honor to herself
and citizenry on iast Sunday rnorn
ing when she turned out en masse
to the special services which had
been announced for the aid of
Emory’s Endowment Fund, and
which had been previously sugges¬
ted thru the columns of The En¬
terprise.
At 11 o’clock. Dr. J. E. Dickey
presented the Endowment plan
now on foot to raise $300,000 for
Emory college. The learned di¬
vine is quite popular with our
people who always hear him glad¬
ly, but bis effort on this occasion
was considered by inanv as excell¬
ing all h^s former pulpit efforts.
The sermon was a splendid prepa¬
ration for the collection which
followed and was responded to
most cheerfully by the congrega¬
tion. The sum of $4,575.00 being
subscribed.
On Monday morning subscrip¬
tions were taken to the amount of
$1,425 00, making a total of $6,
000.00 subscribed by the citizens
of Covington, Oxford and Newton
county, within a very short time.
The subscription books wnl be
kept open for some time yet, in
order to allow some to give to this
noble cause who may not have
attended the special service. Dr.
Dickey is now confident that New¬
ton county will do her part by
her citizens subscribing $10,000.
