Dr^*Dickey Has Returned From

" the Florida Conference

Dr j E. Dickey, president ol
Emory college, has returned home
from his visit to the Florida con¬
ference, which was held at Miami.
l)c. Dickey did not go to.this con
ference for the purpose of attempt¬
ing' to raise mouey for the endow¬
ing fund, but simply as a visitor
to keep in touch with the sister
conference.
Dr. Dickey took a prominent
part in the work of the conference
anti made a splendid address con¬
cealing the educational work being
done by Emory, and as a result of
his visit the following resolution
was unanimously adopted:
« I Resolved, That the members of

ference asembled at Miami, Fla.,
herewith recognize and appreciate
nur interest in Emory college as
f-et iorth in the amendments to the
charter of said college under date
<4 October 17, 1879, dnd
“Resolved further, That we re¬
joice in the prosperity of the said
institution and pray the bleesing
of God upon its labors to the end
and that it may continue to be a
bless ng to the church aud state.”
Since beginning his work of rais¬
ing the endowment fund Dr. Dick¬
ey has met with remarkable sue
cess and so far $185,000 has been
raised. The last subscription was
$12,000 which wa9 secured at the
South Georgia Conference, briug
ing the amount up to the
mentioned.
Within a comparatively
time the entire amount of the fund
will be tn hand, which is
information to the frieuds of
great institution located so
to Covington’s doors.

Informal Dinner.
Among the delightfully informal
dinners of the ChriBtmas holidays,
was that at which Miss Ruby
Weaver entertained at her beauti*
ful old colonial home last Monday
evening in honor of her friends
and visiting girls* ,
The house was very attractive
with ferns, holly, bright with crim¬
son berries, mistletoe and Christ¬
mas bells.
A delicious Christmas dinuer
was served.
Miss Weaver received her
wearing a lovely gown of white net
over taffeta, embroidered in se¬
quins.
Misses Stephenson wore beauti
ful gowns of Champagne silk, made
dir^ctoire.
Miss Mary Dean Towers was
dainty as a flower, wearing a blue
Dresden silk made empire.
Miss Ellyne Franklin wore a
lovely frock of Dresden silk in a
becoming shade of lavender, trim¬
med in lavender bands of messa
line and made empire.
Miss Annelle Franklin was very
attractive in a pale blue silk derec
toire gown, trimmed in embroid¬
ered bands of blue and silver.
Miss Willie Burnice Green,
Kirkwood, wore au exquisite gown
of pink radium, beautifully
med in lace.
Miss Vera Franklin wore a
ly pink silk Eolienne empire,
med in lace aud sequins.
The young gentlemen
were, Messrs. John Echols, W. G.
Moore, of Atlanta,Preston
Carter Franklin and
Weaver.
After dinner the entire party
teilded the dance at the

to visit the mother of the groom,
Mrs. A. A. Carr.
The bride is a resident of Phila¬
delphia, but has a wiuter home in
Clearwater, and is a lady of rare
personal charms.
The groom is a Covington boy
who is well known and highly es¬
teemed. For a number of years he
has held a responsible position as
travelling passenger agent of the
Atlantic Coast £«ir.e, with head¬
quarters at Tampa, Fla., and it is
there that they will make their fu¬
ture home.
They will remain in the city sev¬
eral days, receiving the congratu¬
lations of their friends. Mrs. J.
A. Wright will meet them in At¬
lanta and return here with them.
Stanton-Beasley .
Wednesday afternoon Mr. R. R.
Beasley, of Cartersville, Was
married to Miss Abagail Stanton,
at the home of the bride’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Stanton, of
Newborn.
At 5 o’clock the same afternoon
a reception was teudered to the
young couple in this city by Mr.
and Mrs. Evans Lunsford, after
which they left for a bridal trip
before returning to their home at
Cartersville.
The bride is a most lovely and
accomplished young lady of this
county, possessing many friends
and admirers, while the groom is
a well known young business.man
of this city. They both have a
large number of friends who wish
for them a long life of happiness.
Pitts-Eubanks.
On Wednesday of last week Mr.
R. A. Eubanks, of Atlanta, was
happily married to Miss Minnie
Louise Pitts, of Newborn, the mar¬
riage occurring at the residence of
the bride’s parents, Mr, and Mrs.
Olin Pitts.
The bride is a lady of rare beauty

Mr. Eubanks is a well known
business man of Atlanta, who has
a large circle of frieuds. The hap¬
py couple will reside in Atlanta, at
419 Washington street.
The young couple left the coun¬
ty with the best wishes of a large
circle of friends, but all regret that
the marriage will take the fair
bride from this section.

church was enjoyed by all present.
It was so arranged that all the

Miss Willie Turner, who is
teaching at Monticello, is spend¬
ing the holidays with her sister,

Turner’s 60th birthday Monday at
the home of Mr. Turner.
