silk. Miss Sarah Simms wore a beau¬
tiful gown of blue satin. Miss Bonne
Simms was lovely- in white satin
with a bouquet of crimson salvias.
Mrs. W. C. Clark was handsomely
gowned in spangled net over satin.
Mrs. Nicholson wore a lovely toilet of
cream satin. Mrs. John Wright’s love

Sunday’s Atlanta papers give the
following announcement:
) “Mrs. J. E. Stewart, of Lexington,
Ga., announces the engagement of
her daughter, Isabelle, to Mr. Clar¬
ence Davis Terrell, of Covington, Ga.,
the marriage to take piace the latter
part of November.”
This announcement will be of dis
tinet social interest as both young peo
pie are widely known and popular.
Mr. Terrell holds a responsible po
jition with the Newton County Oil
Mill Co., in which he is a large
stockholder, and is one of the city’s
most prominent and succsesful young
business men.
Five O’clock Tea.
Among the bright affairs of the
week the Five O’Clock tea given Wed¬
nesday afternoon by Miss May White
was both beautiful and delightful..

The young ladies of the bowling club
and their guests were invited to meet
this attractive trio on this occasion, j
and a bright picture these young la
dies presented in their pretty after

The table had for its centerpiece a
tall vase of red roses and a profusion
of cut flowers and graceful ferns wei#
seen with pretty effect' throughout the
receiving apartments. Miss White’s
hospitality was in every way decided

Spend the Day Party.
The members of the Ladies Aid
society of the Presbyterian church will
come together next Tuesday at the
home of Mrs. R. J. Guinn in a delight¬
ful spend the day party. This is an
annual event with this society and
the day is always given over to some
kind of work, the proceeds going to
the Presbyterian orphanage in South

Next Tuesday Time will turn back

the day’s enjoyment. Two quilts
have been donated by Miss Alice Dear

Messrs.Berto Lee, Ernest Callaway,
Shelley Elliott and Will Cook were
hosts- Monday evening entertaining
M ss May white and her house guests
at an ’possum hunt. In a two horse
wagon the merry party,chaperoned by
Mrs.Chas. White, went several miles
presented a weird scene,the young men
in overalls and the young ladies with
their heads in caps of red bandana
handkerchiefs,
A delightful sandwich course was
served and music by a string band

hour, with no official report as to the
number of ’possums caught.
Box Supper.
Mrs. Albert Peek in the district
north of Oxford, entertained last Sat
urday evening with a box supper for
the benefit of the new church at Mt.
5 -ion. The house was beautifully dec
orated with ferns and cut flowers.
The lawn was made attractive for the
occasion by Japanese lanterns, pot
plants and rustic seats and easy ____
chairs grouped here and there added
their comforts to the evenings pleas
n-es. Rev. Mr. Greeson was the
speaker of tke evening, after which
all joined in conversation for an hour,
then followed the auction of the boxes
~ne amount raised was $ 20 . Mrs.
Peek was assisted in entertaining by
Misses dla and Lula Edwards.
Mr. and Mrs. James Carr, who have
been the guests of Dr. and Mrs. J.
A. Wright and other relatives in the
city have returned to their home in |
