OF INTEREST TO WOMEN.
Brushing the Hair.
Once upon a time there was an
accepted _ tradition that thehair should
be given a hundred strokes with a
brush night and morning. This was
believed in by maid and matron.. Wo¬
men who neglected to do it were con¬
sidered lazy.
It was just aa harmful as it was
universal. It has been responsible for
many bald heads. When women
ed that such violent stroking was in
jurious they took a long step toward
having good hair.
A scalp specialist says it is impos¬
sible to estimate the number of wo¬
men who have sacrificed the hair to
that tradition, added to the use of
the wire hair brush.
Overbrushing has done more harm
to the many than curling or wearing
false hair. A rake used on young
grass cn the lawn will tear up and
puli out many a young green shoot.
The same is true of a small rake
used on the, hea.d.
It is almost impossible to keeq
any kind of a brush from puJiirg out
growing hair. When a brush is used
11 should be with a geatk caressing
motion. It should r.ev< r b-- brought
down with a blow on the head and
'ten run over the surface of the
tire hair with aa strong a.motion as
one w ould give to a tenis racquet.
The office of the brush is that, of a
polisher and a cleaner to wipe off the
dust that lies on top of tbe hair. When
ever it is made to reach the scalp it
will remove a crop of the hair as well
as soii and dandruff.
'Then it does r.ct do this to aay
violent extent, it impairs the delira
of the hair. It tears it end rough
eDS it. Therefore do not use stiff
brushes, for the r suit works more
injury than gutrj
