Miss Dessa Hays entertained the
Young Ladies Club on Saturday after¬
noon with a Heart Party which prov¬
ed one of the most delightful of social
gatherings.
The home was made unusually love¬
ly with its decorations of plants and
hearts. Heart-dice was the game en¬
joyed. The score cards being heart
shaped water colors. Beautiful heart
shaped cakes in pink with cream was
served after the game.
Rev. Schuler Will Issue Paper.
Rev. A. C. Schuler, formerly of this
city, but now pastor of the Baptist
church at Backhead, is in the city a
few days and while here made a con¬
tract with this office to issue the Bap¬
tist Helper, a four page paper to be
issued twice a month at that place.
From the initial number Mr. Schuler
will give the people of that city a live
church paper and one that will be ap¬
preciated by all the members of his
church and the people of that section
generally.
Mr. Schuler has a number of friends
at this place who wish for him much
success in his voyage on the sea of
journalism.

Rev. W. M. Callahan, of the Cov¬
ington Mill, desires to thank the peo¬
ple of the Mill and vicinity for their
kind remembrances recently. Mr.
Floyd Stevens' was instrumental in
preparing this gift of a new suit of
j cloth - and a purse containing a neat
sum. During the year 1908, Rev.
| Callahan joined something over 16
couples in the holy bonds of matri¬
mony. Mr. Callahan is quite popu¬
lar among the people of the Mill and
is doing some noble work in this com¬
munity.

Club Notes.
The beautiful aft •moon brought
quite a number of members to the
regular meeting of the Woman’s Culb
last Tuesday afternoon. The final
details of the Library Reception at
Music Hall, Monday evening Feb.

Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Burt, Miss Mary
Garter. Miss Brownie Anderson and
Mrs. John Wright were elected to
membership in the club. The cour¬
tesies of the club have been extended
to Mrs. Shaw, the guest of Mrs. A.
H. Foster, daring her stay in Coving¬
ton and the club was glad to welcome
her out to our last meeting. Com¬
mittee on ways and means decided to
present the ever popular and very in
tertaining play: "The Deestrict
Skuie,” at an early date.

Arcanumites To Atlanta.
Messrs. R. R. Fowler, R. P. Lester,
T. J. Shields, C. A. Sockwell, L. D.
King and J. S. Gardner, enthusiastic
workers in the Royal Arcanum, went
up to Atlanta Monday night to be
present at the special address of Mr.
Van Sands, Supreme Grand Regent of
the Royal Arcanum, who is deliver¬
ing a series of lectures to the differ¬
ent lodges of the order over the south¬
ern states in the interest of the fra¬
ternal feature of this grand old
order. The object of these lectures
is to create more enthusiasm among
the members of the Royal Arcanum.
Every one of these gentlemen ex¬
press themselves as being well pleased
with the trip and are more enthusias¬
tic workers since having heard this
lecture.
Benefit Booth a Succew.
The young ladies of Midway church
made quite a success of their Benefit
which they gave at Mrs. T.M. Berry’s
on last Monday afternoon and even¬
ing. The Emory Orchestra furnished
music from 5 to 8 and their selections
were all well rendered.
The refreshments which consisted
of candies, salads, Brunswick stew,
beaten biscuits and hot oysters were
all elegantly prepared and beautifully
served by the young ladies. The
young ladies were dressed in pure
white with crimson sashes and Jap¬
anese bows of crimson ribbons in
their hair. Quite a nice sum was re
elized for the annex of Midway
church.

Nice "Hog Killed.
Mr. Dan Myers who lives west of
Porterdaie and who is one of the
county’s progressive citizens, killed a
one year old hog one day last week
which netted him three hundred and
fifty pounds. This is an unusual
, weight for a young hog and shows
that with the proper feed and care
meat can be raised here a whole lot
easier and cheaper than in the west.
It would be well for more of the citi¬
zens of this section to raise their sup¬
plies at home and especially their
pork.
