Suggestive Questions on the Sunday School
Lesson by Rev. Dr. Linscott for the Inter¬
national Newspaper Bible Study Club.
Study (or Sunday, May 2, 1909.
Paul’s First Missionary Journey,
—Cyprus. Acts 13:1-12.
Golden Text.—Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to
every creature. Mark 16:15.
Verse 1.---Where was Antioch?
What constituted a Christian
church, then, and now?
What was the difference between
prophets and teachers?
Verse 2.—What is meant by
“ministered to the Cord?”
What mental, physical or spirit¬
ual benefits, are there derived from
fasting?
How long should a person ab
atain from food, in order to con¬
stitute a Christian fast?
What right has the present day
Protestant church to discontinue
the practice of fasting?
When would the ears of a com¬
pany of godly men, be most sensi¬
tive to the voice of God. during a
feast, or a fast?
Was there any connection be¬
tween their ministering and fasting
and the Holy Spirit speaking to
them?
Is the Holy Spirit apt to speak to
those who are not intensely en¬
gaged in the cause of God?
What is necessary in order to
cultivate an ear for the voice of
God?
Should we all be “called” of
God, before undertaking any kind
of work?
Verse 3.—Ought the church to-day
to send out missionaries to new dis¬
tricts, and to heathen countries?
If it is the duty of the church to
send out missionaries, is it, or not, the
duty of every person, whether a
member of the church or not, to help
support them? (This question must
be answered in writingby members
of the club.)
Why did they fast and pray, be-
fore sending Paul and Barnabas on
their mission?
Would it be a help to each local
church to-day, to fast and pray be¬
fore each missionary meeting?
Do you think the women took
part in this service, and whether or
not, what reason is there to debar
women from any of the church’s
work?
Verse 4.—Is it possible or prac¬
tical, to be guided in every journey
we take, and in all else by the Holy
Spirit?
Should a pastor ever take charge
of a new church, without being
directed to do so, by the Holy
Spirit?
Please point out on the map, in
your Bible, where Seleucia, Salamis
and Cyprus are situated.
Were they consciously, or un¬
consciously, directed by God the
Holy Spirit, all along their journey?
Verse 5.— Should men and
women, in the ordinary walks of
life, be as faithful in preaching the
gospel, or testifying for Jesus,
wherever they may be, as Paul and
Barnabas were?
Verse 6.-—How many places
mentioned in this lesson, are situ¬
ated on the Island of Cyprus?
(See your map.)
What motives had likely induced
this man Elymas, to claim to be a
prophet?
Verses 7-8.---How do you account
for a man being so bad. as to try to
prevent another man from serving
the true God?
Verses 9-12.---Are good men
justified in rebuking bad men with
vehemence, when they would stop
a work of love and mercy?
Is it possible for a bad man to
escape the just penalty of his sins?

DELEGATES ELECTED
BY IMP. 0. B. M.
Will Send Delegates To Atlanta In
June To Attend Grand
Council.
The Suwanee Tribe, Improved Or-,
der of Red Men of this city, have 1
selected their delegates to the grand,
council of that order which meets in
Atlanta in June, and with the gentle¬
men selected from this Tribe the Cov- 1
ington Camp will be well represented.
They are Messrs. Paul Evans and
Parks Hays.
Mr. E. R. Gunn, also of this tribe
has been selected as press agent for
the state at the Council and will go
with the delegates. Mr. Gunn will
make a good press representative as
he is a fluent writer and was at one
time editor of the Covington Enter¬
prise.
The order of Red Men has had a
phenominal growth in this city as
well as elsewhere during the past
year and her report at the Grand
Council will show up as well as any
other locality in the state. Although
the Tribe has only been in Covington
for a few years their membership in¬
cludes a number of the best citizens
of the city and county and their roll
of members is as large or larger than
any other order in the city.
A GOOD CORPS OF
CORRESPONDENTS.
Our News Gatherers Are Making
the County News Items Columns
Grow Each Week.
It is with pleasure that this paper
notes the increased number of corre¬
spondents and news gatherers in
every issue. At present there are
only a few districts in the county
from which we do not receive news
items. We appreciate our corre¬
spondents taking so much interest in
The News. Without their aid it would
be folly to undertake to get out a first
class w T eekly newspaper. The items
from each locality and the different
improvements being made in their
respective districts are read with
much interest by the citizens of "the
other sections of the country and are
what go into the making of a good
paper.
While The News has a representa¬
tive in nearly every section we would
ask that if you see that your district
is not represented, send in the items
each w 7 eek. We will appreciate them
and they will be of inestimable inter¬
est to the people. In this connection
however, we would like to state that
the name of the writer must be signed
to the communication each week oi*
else we cannot publish them. We re¬
quire the name of the writer not for
publication, but that we may know 7
who the correspondent is.
Almost every week we receive
communications from different peo¬
ple with no name signed, which of
course, we cannot publish.
We extend our thanks to our cor¬
respondents for making your paper
a live one from a news standpoint.
COVINGTON WILL
HAVE AUCTION.
Messrs. Joe A. Starr and E. II.
Adams of Mansfield, Have Se¬
cured Property For It.
Sometime within the next sixty
days Covington will have a big auc¬
tion sale of residence lots in the eas¬
tern part of the city, Messrs. E. H.
Adams and Joe A. Starr, tw 7 o of
Mansfield’s hustling citizens having
bought the old Roberts place and are
now laying off and grading streets,
cutting the property tip into building
lots and otherwise improving it.
Several unique features will be put
on during and previous to the sale
and several improvements made on
the property before the date of sale.
Mr. White will have charge of the
auction and he stated to a News man
the other day that he expected to
give aw 7 ay ten of these lots before the
day fixed for the sale and would also
give a lot to someone each day as
long as it lasts.
The section of the city selected for
the subdivision and sale is out on
Floyd street, just beyond Col. Mil¬
ner’s home and will make the pret¬
tiest lots for residences in the city.
No doubt they will all be bought up
by citizens desiring a good location
| ! for In all a home the best and residence also for a speculation.
sections of
| the city lots are very scarce and in a
; few 7 more years they will be hard to
j get at any price. The date for the
sale has not been fixed yet bnt will
be announced as soon as the streets
can be surveyed and graded and
other improvements can be made.
Mr. Adams says that they are going
to spend a lot of money on the prop¬
erty in making it the most desirable
in the city.
A Pretty Runabout.
One of the prettiest runabout bug¬
gies seen in this city in several years
was the one finished up by the Cov¬
ington It Buggy Company a few days
ago. was what is called the cut
under job, and its appearance when
finished was excellent. Mr. Wright,
the manager, is building some swell
buggies with the new firm and if they
all come up to the standard he has
set for himself in the beginning he
will have to increase the size of his
factory.
The runabout didn’t stay in the
building long enough to display it as
a purchaser called for it almost as
soon as it was completed.
