music lovers attended the opening of
the Music Festival in Atlanta last

Mrs. J. A. Cathey and children re¬
turned Sunday from a several days
visit to relatives at Machen and Shady
Dale.

the church work with which he is
connected.
Mrs. Sam Green will arrive within
a few days to be the guest of her
mother, Mrs. J. T. Wright, for the
next ten days.

Miss Dollie Burns, a very attractive
young lady of Salem, has returned to
her home after a delightful visit to
Mrs. Gurley Turner.
Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Quillian, of Bir¬
mingham, are the guests of his pa¬
rents, Rev. and Mrs. H. M. Quillian,
on Monticello street.

from a visit to friends in Madison.
Mr. and Mrs. Brad Bohanan spent
Sunday at Jackson, the guests of

Mrs, L. P. Reeves and little daugh¬
ter, Elizabeth, will return this week
from a two weeks’ visit to friends at
Macon and Atlanta.
Miss Annelle Franklin arrived in the
city from Mansfield Tuesday to be the
guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Franklin
on Monticello street.

Miss Annie Mae Lester returned to
her home this week after a very
pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. R. P.
Lester in No“th Covington.
Miss Annie Perry, the popular as¬
sistant in the postoffice, is recovering
from her recent illness to the delight
of her many friend in the city.
Mr. R. H. Bohanan, son of Chief of
Police Brad Bohanan, left Monday
for Griffin, where he goes to accept a
position with the Norman Buggy Co.
Mr. Hoyt Stephens, formerly with
Stephenson & Callaway of this city,
but now with Nunnally & Co., at
Monroe, spent Sunday with friends
here.
Mr. Preston Carroll and Dr. Ango¬
las, of Westbourne, Tenn., spent a
few days during the past week with
Mr. 'Carroll’s parents in North Cov¬
ington.
Miss Byrd Gibson, of Oak Hill, and
Miss Ethel McCord, of Pace, spent
the week-end very pleasantly with
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McCord, on Wash¬
ington street.
Mrs. W. D. Travis entertained a
few of the matrons and their children
at a spend-the-day-party at her lovely
home on Floyd street Saturday.
Quite an enjoyable day is reported by
the ladies and their children spent
with Mrs. Travis. Among the
invited guests were: Mrs. H. B. An¬
derson and children; Mrs. C. A. Sock
well and little daughter; Mrs. A. D.
Williams and children. After a most
pleasantly spent day the guests re¬
turned to their homes as the after¬
noon waned into night.
THE COVINGTON NEWS
Rev. and Mrs. H. M. Quillian re¬
turned this week from Birmingham,
where they went-to be present at the
marriage of their son, Mr. C. F. Quil¬
lian to Miss Helen Jackson of that
city.
Rev. J. N. Snow, editor of the En¬
terprise, and his wife have moved
into one of the cottages just off Floyd
street to make their home. The peo¬
ple of the city extend to these good
people a hearty welcome among them.
Mr. E. L. Osborn, of Atlanta, a for¬
mer resident of this city, spent a few
days of this week with relatives here.
Ed has a number of friends in Coving¬
ton who are always glad to welcome
him among them. For a number of
years he was connected with the
Covington Star under the editorial
guidance of “Uncle Jimmie” Ander¬
son. He was a pleasant caller at The
News office while in the city.
Gardner-Black.
Miss Etta Gardner, daughter of Mr.
John Gardner, of Rocky Plains dis¬
trict, was married to Mr. J. Otha
Black last Friday, Rev. McDill per¬
forming the ceremony.
This popular couple has a host of
friends throughout the county who
extend congratulations and best wish¬
es for a long and happy life.
Miss Gardner is a young woman
possessing all those characteristics
that go to make her popular and at¬
tractive, while Mr. Black is one of the
most prominent planters of the county.
Graham-Harris.
Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Harris, of Ring
gold, announce the engagement of
their daughter, Lorah Lena, and the
Rev. Benjamin Graham, pastor Col- i
lins Memorial Methodist church, Bol-:
ton, the marriage to take place late
in June.
The above appeared in the Atlanta
papers of Sunday. Miss Harris is one
of the teachers in the schools of this
city and is quite popular among our
people. She came here from Ring
gold at the opening of the spring term
of our schools and has held the posi¬
tion as instructor in the High school
department with ability and to the
general satisfaction of the patrons
and trustees of the school. She has
a large number of friends in the city
who will regret to know that she will
no longer be in the schools of this
city. All of whom join The News in
saying that it is with regret that we
give her up, but wish for her in ad¬
vance a long and happy union.
Almand-Terrcll.
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Webster Al
mand, of Atlanta, announce the en¬
gagement ot their daughter, Floy,
and Mr. Joseph Bayne Terrell, of
Covington, the wedding to take place
in June.
Miss Almand is quite popular both
among Covington and Atlanta people,
and is a frequent visitor here, having
been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. O. F.
Adair on several occasions. She is a
young lady who numbers her friends
with her acquaintance and is univer¬
sally liked by all.
Mr. Terrell is the' second son of
Capt. and Mrs. H. D. Terrell, of this
city, and is one of the most promi¬
nent young business men of Coving¬
ton. He is connected with several of
the moneyed enterprises of the city
and is at present secretary of the
Newton County Oil Mills. He is very
pofralar and has a large circle of
friends here and in Atlanta who wish
for him much joy and happiness, and
are congratulating him upon having
won the hand of this fair young lady.
