Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Callaway spent

Miss Etta MeRee who has been vis¬
iting Mrs. Dan Jones has returned to
her home at Watkinsville.
Miss Annie Higgins, who has been
teaching in the Monroe High schools,
is at home to spend the summer.
Miss Mary Wood, of College Park,
was the guest of Miss Mary Lou Arm¬
strong several days of last week.
Miss Christine White has returned
from Milledgeville, where she has
been attending the State Normal
school.
Miss Louise Holt has returned to
her home in Montgomery, Ala., after
a delightful visit to Mr. and Mrs. R.
P. Lester.
Miss Fannie Taylor, who has been
in the dry goods department of C. C.
Robinson’s store for the past several
months, has seturned to her home at
Social Circle.
Mrs. R. R. Beasely, of Cartersville,
was the guest of Mrs. Evans Lunsford
two days of last week. Mrs. Beasely,
before her marriage was Miss Abigail
Stanton, of Newborn, and is well
known here.

Rev. H. M. Quillian, pastor of the
Methodist church here, preached the
commencement sermon for the Social
Circle High schools last Sunday.
Miss Emma Quillian and Miss Sadie
Smith, who have been teaching at
Young Harris, are with Rev. and Mrs.
H. M. Quillian, at the parsonage.
Miss Lillie Pennington, who has
been teaching school at Loganville,
is here to spend her vacation with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. R.
Pennington.
Rev. and Mrs. S. P. Wiggins and
little son, of Jackson, spent this week
here the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.
B. R. Pennington, and attended the
Emory commencement exercises. Mr.
and Mrs. Wiggins are well known and
loved by the people of this county, he
having filled the pastorate of Newborn
and Newborn circuit.

Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Vining announce
the birth of a boy, Sanders Oliver.
Mrs. W. H. Taylor and; little daugh¬
ter, of Griffin are the guests of Mr.
and Mrs. J. J. Fincher,
Masters Emmett Rogers, David But¬
ler and Willie Gaither caught an
eighteen pound turtle out of Butler’s
pond one day last week.
Miss Ethel Dimond,of Birmingham,
and Miss Maggie Bush, of Clarkston,
are the attractive guests of Col. and
Mrs. A. D. Meador.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. D. Johnston,
have moved here from Atlanta, and
will be at home to their friends at, the
residence of Mrs. V. Camp.
Mrs. W. H. Evans accompanied her
son, Mr. Walter E. Evans, to his
home in New York this week for a
several months visit to that city.
Mr. W. E. Rumph, of the T. C.
Swann Co., has returned from his
home at Culloden, where he was called
on account of the illness of his father.
Rev. E. R. Pendleton, pastor of the
First Baptist church, this city,
preached an interesting and forceful
sermon to a large congregation at
Porterdale Sunday.
Dora Lou, the infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Dolp Elliott, died at
their home in Gum Creek district, af¬
ter a short illness. The bereaved par¬
ents have the sympathy of the en¬
tire community.
Little Miss Allie Louise Travis, the
attractive daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
William D. Travis, will return this
week from a delightful visit to her
grandparents, Capt. and Mrs. A. R.
Bomar, at DoUglasville.
Prof, and Mrs. Charles. C. Elliott,
of, Sparks, spent several days of the
past week the guests of friends in the
city. Professor Elliott is an old
Newton county boy and now princi¬
pal of the Sparks Institute. He has
a large number of relatives in this
county.
Street Tax Notice.
Notice is hereby given that every male inhabi¬
tant of the city of Covington, between the ages of
16 and 50 years, residing in said city at any time
since March 1, 1909, be and is hereby required to
pay a Street Tax of Three Dollars for the year
1909, on or before July 1, 1909, and in default of
payment thereof, to work on the streets of said
city for eight days at such times as they may be
notified by the Marshal or Deputy Marshal of
said city.

Dog Tax Notice.
A tax of One Dollar is due on all Dogs in the
City of Covington June 1st. A failure to pay this
tax by June 20th will result in a double tax on
each dog. The Council proposes to collect this
tax on every dog and puppy in the city limits.
Collars or tags will be furnished at the office of
of the City Clerk.
