of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Simmons.
Miss Frances Henderson left Tues¬
day for Atlanta where she will join

a few friends who will attend a house
party at Tallulah Falls during the
next two weeks.

this week at Blue Ridge attending the
encampment of the B. Y. P. U’s. that
convenes there this week.
Miss Edna Taylor left Monday for
her home at Social Circle for a
month’s rest and after Sept. 1st, she
will be connected with the Robir.son
Co., at that place. Miss Taylor has
many friends here who regret that
she will not return to Covington an¬
other year.
Miss Minnie Trenholm, of Columbia
S. C., is expected soon to spend this
month with relatives here. Miss Tren
holm is a daughter of Rev. T. B. Tren¬
holm a prominent minister of S. C.
who was once in charge of the Pres
byterian church here.
On Friday afternoon little Miss Al
lene Simmons entertained about twen¬
ty of her little friends at a pretty par¬
ty at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. W.
Simmons complimentary to Miss Ruby
Ragland who has been the guest of
Mrs. Scruggs. After a merry round
of games, fruits, cream and cake were
served the happy young guests.

Religious Services.
At County Line Baptist church next
Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock Rev.
Avery Lummus will preach in the ab¬
sence of the pastor. Mr. Lummus is
the son of Mr. J. T. Lummus, and a
graduate of Mercer University, and is
a young man of gifted mind.
Last Sundays’ services in Covington
had some special features. The Bap¬
tist eleven o’clock hour was very
bright with good music. The Bapti sts
have been fortunate in having visiting
talent this summer of unusual ability.
Mrs. Sanders sang at this service.
Two new members were received—
Miss Lizzie Guinn and Mr. Z. B. Trice.
The pastor was granted 1 ave of ab¬
sence for the remainder of August to
attend the Baptist Assembly at Blue
Ridge.
The union men and boys prayer
meeting in the afternoon was live,
and brought out a splendid represen¬
tation of the Christian business men
of Covington. Mr. D. A. Thompson
was the leader and spoke with feeling
of the value of the Bible as a guide in
ordinary duties. Others spoke to the
subject testifying to the fact that
Christianity helps to make one a bet¬
ter business man. Punctuality to all
engagements and obligations was
stressed, and the importance of train¬
ing children in habits of thrift and
economy were points well handled.
The next meeting will be held in the
Methodist church. The hour is four
o’clock,
The union of all the churches at
night brought a large congregation
for an August night together in the
Methodist church. At the opening!
Misses Maggie and Carrie Davis sang
together. The Baptist pastor deliver
ed the sermon, speaking on the sub- j
ject, “Immorality and the Future
Punishment of the Impenitent.” Mr.
and Mrs. W. C. Sanders were pressed
into service and rendered a duet.
Next Sunday will find the Presby¬
terian church with the only preach¬
ing in town as both the other pastors
are away. Mr. Quiliian at Salem and
Mr. Pendleton at Blue Ridge.

Little Girl Breaks Limb.
Rubie Jack, the 8-year old daughter
of Mr. Estelle Glenn, of this city, fell
while playing in a swing at the Flow¬
ers Hotel Monday morning and in
some way broke her limb just above
the ankle.
Little Ruby came up from Social
Circle Sunday in company with her
older sister to spend some time with
her father, and was playing in the
swing at the hotel when the accident
occurred. She was given medical at¬
tention by Drs. Anderson and Robin¬
son, and as we go to press is resting
well and will in a short while be up
and out again.
