U home enterprises will
well to see one of them as early as
and secure some of the stock
before it is all taken. The gentlemen
this committee are Messrs.
H. D. Terrell, Thomas G. Callaway,
Bailey' Fowler, C. S. Thompson, C. C.
BrookB, F. E. Heard, Geo. T. Smith,
Dr. N. Z. Anderson and Mr. John H.
Echols.
The people of this city are not slow
about taking hold of anything and
the fact that the preliminary w 7 ork of
this organization w'as completed in
such a short time is commendable and
show's that they are full of that nec¬
essary adjunct to good business—
hustle.
To Covington and Newton county
this new enterprise will mean a great
deal from several viewpoints, one be¬
ing that their pay r roll will help busi¬
ness in all lines, another being that it
will consume a large amount of our
cotton. Probably the greatest bene
efit to the city, however, is that every
enterprise secured makes the next
one easier to get which w r ill eventually
mean that Covington will soon be
what she is striving to be—a live,
hustling manufacturing and commer
cial center.
Minstrel Show Appreciated.
Coburn’s Greater Minstrel Show,
w’hich appeared at the Opera House
last Tuesday night was largely at¬
tended and the managers of the house
have been congratulated on securing
such a good show for this city. 1 he
voices were all good, the songs were
catchy and all the features were fine,
and the large audience which greeted
them here was w'ell pleased.
An effort is now being made to se¬
cure the Mabel Page Company for a
week’s engagement, announcement
of which w'ill be made later.
Shed at Central Crossing.
May r or Clias. G. Smith has taken up
the matter with the officials of the
Central railroad to build a waiting
shed at the Central crossing on Rail¬
road street where the t ransfer is made
from that road to the Georgia. The
passengers are greatly inconvenienc¬
ed in bad weather in making this
transfer and Mr. Smith is trying to
secure the shed. He has been as¬
sured that the matter will be given
careful consideration and that in all
probability the shed will be built for
the accommodation of the traveling
public.
