Mr. E. M. (Gene) Lester, district
manager for the Southern Bell Tele
phone company at Houston, Texas, is
sending several days at the home of
his uncle, Mr. R. P. Lester. He is be
ing welcomed by the friends of his
boyhood days, as lie attended school
here and at old Emory College, Ox
ford. He is still a bachelor.
Kiwanis Ladies Night
The meeting of the Kiwanis club of
Covington was held last week on
Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. This
was “Ladies Night” and the evening
was' thoroughly enjoyed by all Kiwan
ians and their lady friends who were
present. The program was in charge
of Floyd Jennings, chairman of the
Inter-Club Relations committee of the
Atlanta club. There were 13 Kiwan
ians and ladies present from Atlanta.
Features of the program were the
singing of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jen
nings. the speech of Fred Sned. lieu
tenant governor of our division, and
the male chorus. Mr. and Mrs. Jen
nings are real artists and responded
to several encores to the delight of all
present. Their accompanist was Mrs.
Bonita Crowe, of Atlanta. Others of
the visitors who responded and gave
short talke were Frank Reynolds, Jer
ry Goodman and Claude Pyburn. May

The meeting was a success from ev
ery standpoint, except th’ere was not
a large percentage of our members
present.

Zion Baptist Revival
The Zion Baptist church, 10 miles
southwest of Covington, will have a
revival beginning Friday evening at
8:30 eastern time, August 2 and con
tinning through August 11. Services
will he held each day at 11 :30 a. m.
and 8:30 p. m. Rev. W. Harvey Wages,
pastor of the Litbonia Baptist church,
and also pastor of Zion church, will
do the preaching. The music will he
ir, charge of Director McCollough and
the Zion choir. The Zion chor and di
rector are among the best singers in
Newton county and excellent music
is assured.
Rev. Mr. Wages is a strong preacher,
having had nearly twenty years’ ex
perience as a pastor and evangelist.
His preaching has always met with
universal favor wherever he has
preached.
All the members of Zion church to
gether with the entire community, are |
cordially invited and earnestly urged j
to cooperate in the meeting.
