Sunshine
By Mrs. Henry Odum
S. C. Newberry Hospital,
Good morning friends:
There is an old saying, that
"absence makes the heart grow
fonder," and in this instance 1 can
thoroughly agree, I think of
"home people’’ one by one and
there arises a strong feeling of
love and friendship and dear faces
that I am afraid I have long taken
for granted, and a quiet absence,
with plenty of idle time makes one
truly appreciate friends, county,
home and state, especially as hour I
by hour one quietly sits by the
bedside of a loved one you weave
memories, yes vivid memories of
the past into hopes of the future.
I string my memories,
Days are g.ven gifts, dark and fair
toys, hearts to appease
g ome are priceless treasures I
Some tarnished and rusted away,
Alaking a chain of mixed colors
Afi if for a child to play.
Some days are wet with tear stain
Some are of a perfect cast
But both are treasured memories
That to my heart I clasp.
Even in the saddest places we
find glad spots, even in a hospital
we find new friends, and I must
say this city with something like
nine thousand population is one
of the prettiest and cleanest towns
i have ever been in, the highways
that lead into it have great lighted

“The home of friendly people,

n u nS p 0 ken words seem to know:
Courtesy is the golden key
Courtesy makes all men friends,
Courtesy builds a self respect
Courtesy never fails—it wins.
Courtesy unitesNjtrangers
Drives out gloom and fear,
Courtesy is the golden rule
And makes doubt disappear.
Courtesy teaches patience
Courtesy is framed in smiles
Courtesy drives out hatred
Sends cheer along life’s miles.
Courtesy can be acquired
And helps in many ways
In good plain Eng’lish language
Courtesy always pays.
It is agreed that the country is
better off nqfv than at any time
durin gthe past year, but no polit
ical partisiane can be found who
will agree upon the reasons for
the Improvement.
