LANA TURNER . . , who knows
health is necessary for clear skin.
By HELEN FOLLETT
DON’T FANCY that you can
canter to the cosmetic counter, tote
home lotions, oreams, powder, lip
sticks and the grand galaxy of per
fume treasures, and expect your loot
to work magic as casually as the
magician takes rabbits from a hat.
Cosmetics are valuable aids. We
need them in our business of put
ting up a good appearance. But
more than that is necessary if the
complexion is to be of fine texture,
show delicate coloring, be all that
a lady’s face should be.
The skin is a barometer of
health. The physician can read it
as easily as he reads his newspaper.
A sallow surface indicates internal
disorders. The snow white, paper
like skin is due to malnutrition
usually. Ruddiness signifies a diet
that is too heavy, not supplying the
necessary vitamins and mineral
salts—too much protein and not
enough fruit and vegetables.
When the face is round and full,
rouge should be placed high on the
cheek bones, fairly close to the
nose. Placing rouge low makes the
jaws look wider, cheeks fuller.
One can discover one’s individual
blush pattern by rubbing the face
with ice. Flesh where the blush
should be will redden first. Rouge
is used lightly these days. Natural
effects are the cry now. Strong
make-up is as old-fashioned as the
chignon.
