Observations
FROM THE
Pastorium
REV. C. C. BUCKALEW
Pastor, Conyers Baptist Church
Conyers, Ga,
The Daily Vacation Bible School
has been a most outstanding suc
cess since it began two weeks ago
It will reach its final climax in the
commencement which will be held
at the Baptist Church Friday nignt
a) 8 o clock. This is the second school
of this type to be held in our town,
and has proven to be the most pop
ular and most profitable of all the
undertakings of the church forces
sc far as our youftg people are con
cerned. The enrollment has reached
150 with a faculty of thirty efficient
workers who have been most sacri
ficial and loyal in these hot days.
Conyers has many things to be
proud of, but a survey of the young
people of the town proves, oi this asset
to be the most hopeful them all.
The Vacation School had a pic
nic at the church last Friday after
the down-pour of rain which pre
vented carrying out the usual plan
of taking the children away for
games. The Beasley-Walker Drug
Store furnished enough ice cream
to supply the tastes of all those chii
dien, and added enough for the facul
ty also. Thanks to these young men
of this successful establishment in
this town for their fine cooperation
and this splendid contribution to
cur children.
The convenience of the new Bap
j tist church is much in evidence in
a school like this: the accessibility
of the building with its convenience
of arrangements makes it most use
ful for any type of religious service,
Dr. Harvey Clark was the guest
speak at both services last Sunday.
He won a very warm place in the
hearts of all those who heard him
and enjoyed the pictures which he
used in connection with his lecture
Sunday night. Forty years ago he
visited our church here when the
old building had just been completed.
Since that time he has spent most
of the time in Japan as a Southern
Baptist Missionary. He returned
the states one year after his
began in Japan to marry his

six children were all retimed to this
county for their higher education:
five of them are college graduates.
The Covington News has very
graciously furnished the church with

Conyers is the son of Dr. and Mrs
E. L. Tibbie of Covington He has
been connected with the Hankins
Music Co., of Atlanta for a number
of years and has been recently
transfered to Columbia, S. C.. where

Prayer meeting will convene Wed
nesday night at 8:15. Officers and
teachers meeting of the Sunday
school will meet at 8:30 Thursday
night.
The men’s fellowship meeting will
he held again Friday night at 8:15
with lunch in the dining room of the
church. All of the men of the com
munity are invited, and the men of
the Baptist church are especially
urged to attend and to bring their
friends.
plenty of letter heads and envelopes
for a long time and for this we are
very grateful. Mr. Hay is doing us
a great service in the pominence
which he is giving our town and his
paper really lt.wrts “news of in
terest to Conyers and Rockdale
County.'’ He receives all that our
people have to give him with ap
preciation, and reports us always
in a favorable light. Mr. Dennis, the
proprietor of the Covington News,
is a Baptist Deacon, the superin
tendent of the Sunday School of the
Covington Baptist Church, and a
loyal supporter of all the program of
his church and pastor. One of the
best church bulletins of Georgia is
printed by him and presented to
bis church each week.
Our people were delighted to have
Rev. Walker Combs preach for us
at our church two weeks ago. He was
pastor for a short time in this town
more than twenty years ago. and wa
have followed him with interest
ir. his fine work since that time.
Rev. Paul Lester, the only preach
er ever ordained by the Conyers
Baptist Church, returned to speak for
us at the prayermeeting last week.
He is pastor of a field of churches in
South Georgia, and doing a fine wors
in that section. It so happens
the two of us have the same great
grandfather, Hiram Lester, who lived
to be one hundred and twenty
years of age. Neither of us bold
tale very freely until some years
when we were able to
the report of his long life.
In the visit of Mrs. Serena
the chur.ch and pastor became
more conscious of her warm
ship. She has watched the
of our church with a seat deal
interest and has made a large
terial contribution to the
fund. Upon this visit she vegy gra
ciously gave twenty dollars to fur
